Old Cat
 

Hi
I am really worried about emigrating my 17 year old grumpy/nervy cat to BC next August. Has any one else flown their elderly cat, and had a good or bad experience? Can you recommend a service provider?

Hi,
Our 2 cats are both 12 years old and they were fine. They flew Air Canada in the hold and were absolutely fine after the journey. One of them is a particularly nervous cat when travelling, but she was fine.

Ok i'm not going to be of any help whatsoever but i just wanted to say.....

....YOU CAT IS 17yrs OLD!?!?!?! Wow!!!!

At that age i'd get some good advice from a vet.

Edited to add: Crikey, and it'll be 18 when you emigrate!?!?!? Impressive!!!!

Is yr vet happy to issue a "Fit to fly" certificate for the cat - that should be the first question . . .

If our 19-year-old cat is still around when we go she will come with us if vet gives her the all clear.

I have heard that Par Air at Stanway, Essex are very good. We spoke to them about our babies and were impressed.

we flew our 15 year old tabby out with us, the vet said she'd be fine & thankfully she was. Despite cat flaps & our other cat living outdoors, in the U.K., she was pretty much a house cat. Since coming here she is always out & about & seems to have a new lease on life. If the vet gives you the O.K. I'd go for it....

Yep my cat is an old boy, I have had him since he was 8 weeks, so def not leaving him behind! I am taking him to the vet for an MOT as the 'fit to fly' is the obvious place to start, so that you for that tip! Blimey I thought I had enough to worry about with our medicals, let alone one for the cat too!

I guess my biggest fear is that it gets all too much for him and his last moments are in the hold on an aircraft..I am not sure I could forgive myself. But I will start with the vet first!

I had to leave my 14 year old cat behind when we moved in July, I thought it would be easy to find someone to look after her until we got our own house but couldnt get anyone to take her. I thought no one would want my dog but some of my family here offered to keep her till we get sorted. I just couldnt put my cat through an unknown stretch in kennels at that age although it was so hard leaving her after having her since a kitten.

We were able to find a great family back home to keep her and am so glad now as not sure that this is the place for cats that like to run about outdoors with all the wild life there is, would have been a bit much for her I think.
