offer in calgary
Hi ,
I had taken a lot of advice on job search from this forum..Thankfully I got an offer from a calgary based company..I am in the process of evaluating the offer. I am now evaluating the offer and would appreciate any advice. * Offer is 90k annual * Extended Health & Dental Plan for family (80% coverage) * Life Insurance , disability insurance, Accident insurance coverage. * Relocation : Upto 15k Questions 1. Would this be a good salary for a single income family of 3 members (expecations: half duplex house or 2 bedroom condos in a good location, basic lifestyle)? 2. How to calculate the net pay after tax and deductions(family with 1 child) 3. Will I be able to secure a mortgage in atleast 6 months based on this income ? What is the typical downpayment looking forward to ur inputs. |
Re: offer in calgary
I have just been offered a Job in Calgary and will be moving over in October.
I have been offered CAD 75,000 with similar benefits and relocation expenses. This salary calculates to 4,700 per month take home, I have decided to rent for two reasons one to get to know the areas before I buy and to allow the uk market to recover (if ever) to get the right price for my uk property, I am led to believe a minimum deposit of 10% is required to obtain a mortgage. I have researched and been over to Calgary and believe this salary will give myself, wife (who will not be working) and our two young children a better standard of living than we had in the UK |
Re: offer in calgary
both job offers seem pretty good to me, 90k is a good starting wage and you'll get a nice detached house for that with a decent deposit of course.

Suspect you are well on your way to being able to achieve your stated goals. I found this simple resource that will help, to some degree, with the take home pay question. http://www.walterharder.ca/Take%20Ho...alculator.html To complete the picture, you'd need to figure out how much, if anything, you need to contribute to the health/insurance benefits. The following will help you figure out the mortgage situation. http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/co/buho/buho_005.cfm We hope your move across is a great success. We've been here (Okotoks) 11 months so far and are enjoying it very much. Kind regards, Eamonn & Janet. |
Re: offer in calgary
One thing I would try and negotiate a bit on would be relocation costs. This is fully taxable and so $15 may therefore not cover your container and flights
