OA and UK Pension quick question
I am British, and Canadian. I worked in Canada for only two years before moving back to the UK.
I have now reached pension age. They want to know if I’m eligible for that old age pension payment from Canada. I had assumed not. And I haven’t applied. I was a stay at home mom most of my adult life and haven’t even worked in the UK but for a few years. I’m only getting the minimum from the UK. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks |
Re: OA and UK Pension quick question
Canada Pension Plan (CPP) requires only one contribution to qualify for a pension. Old Age Security (OAS) requires 20 years of residency in Canada (not contributions) to qualify when you are living abroad. Ten years if you live in Canada. You can also defer your pension until you are 70 to get an increased amount and I assume you will get a pro rata at any age between 65 and 70.
Send off (use tracked mail) the attached form (ISP-1000) and I believe they will backdate it to your qualifying date. It took me a couple of months before they processed the application but they seem quite efficient. https://catalogue.servicecanada.gc.ca/content/EForms/en/Detail.html?Form=ISP1000 https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/publicpensions/cpp/apply.html |
Re: OA and UK Pension quick question
Thank you for the reply. That’s what I thought. I only lived in Canada for six years.
But I did read something about a treaty with the UK in terms of the OAS and got confused. I had no idea I might get a Canadian pension…I’ll look into to that. But the UK was asking about the OAS payment. cheers |

The bank details on the application form are for deposits in Canadian accounts: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-serv...ment-form.html |
