Nursing in Saskatchewan?
Hi Gang,
Just after some guildance,my wife is a nurse and we were wondering if there is any information about nursing in saskatchewan.Originally we were looking at Alberta but the house prices have put the squeeze on us,we know there was a route into Alberta through nursing, not sure if theres one into saskatchewan. Be most grateful if anyone could point us in the right direction. Regards The Thompsons. |
Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
Start research here, the last one is the Sask nursing website, lists requirements etc for registration:
http://www.canadianrn.com/ http://www.sun-nurses.sk.ca/ http://www.srna.org/ As of Jan 05 the Sask PNP scheme was widened from 12 listed occupations to include pretty much all skilled workers/professionals. So there seems to be no direct nursing PNP scheme. Suggest doing media research to find out how short of nurses they are (VERY SHORT- shortage and looming crisis in Canada healthcare sector is as bad as in UK if not worse over next 5-10 years). Contact directly with recruiters and regional health authorities will reveal best approach to take, but should include option to go via PNP, maybe temp work permit first with parallel PNP application. They will bite your hand off for a good experienced British nurse, specialist more so, generalist less so. Pick up phone, email, ask questions, inquire, network. You may be asked for all old training certifications/course info, training updates, references, criminal record check etc. This process alone may take a few months. Then will have to take CRNE exam (but may work on 'interim permit' before passing CRNE exam, permit may be assigned by Sask regulatory body) if such a scheme exists. Good luck, you should be in strong demand there. Do not be put off by any initial slothlike response from recruiters or regulatory body paper shufflers, such matters take time, are not for the faint hearted, persistence [and much patience of a saint] is required but will be well rewarded. Good luck to you, Rich.

Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
Hi,
Try North Battleford Hospital in Saskatchewan. Very short of medical staff. Try putting sask network into google or hrsdc north battleford. If you need any more info I will try to help you, Regards, Midge ps i think all you need to do is sit an exam to transfer qualifications. |

Rich,
Do you live in Saskatchewan? If not please dont comment. In Saskatchewan you sit an exam if you pass fine no problem in getting a nursing job. Most people actually start the job without the test being sat and sit it at a later date. I know the lady that works at the hospital on recruiting foreign workers so I do believe I have accurate information. I am not a jack of all trades and master of none as you appear to be. I do not post threads for the sake of it--just when I have the correct info. and am trying to help someone. Midget. |
Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
We shall see how the advice pans out, shall we. Suggest you read below, obtaining registration is not like buying a can of Diet Coke. I will take your paltry insult and throw it in the trash where it belongs with the rest of the snot and scrapings.
Do not try helping people if your advice is of no value or likely to do more harm than good, as is proven to be the case here. It is clearly not simply a case of sitting an exam. One needs transcripts etc (plus many things not least references, crim rec check) and not all UK nurses qualify for a variety of reasons too complex to waste my time explaining to the likes of an ignoramus such as you. ------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE NOTE: In order to practise nursing in Saskatchewan, a person MUST be registered and hold a licence to practise nursing with the SRNA. Without a licence to practise nursing, a person CANNOT call themselves, or be employed as , a "nurse," "registered nurse" or "graduate nurse". Requirements for Registration in Saskatchewan are as follows: Graduation from a basic nursing education program considered equivalent to an SRNA approved basic nursing education program. An official transcript(s) is required and MUST be forwarded directly to our office from your nursing education program. Your nursing education transcripts will be assessed when your application is processed. Receipt of official verification of original registration by the regulating body of another province, state or country and that your right to practise as a registered nurse is not revoked or under suspension as a result of a disciplinary proceeding in any other jurisdiction. Send the verification of original registration form where you obtained your basic nursing education and first/original registration. They will complete their portion and return the form to our office. Receipt of official verification of current and most recent registration by the regulating body of another province, state or country in which you were last registered. Send the verification of current and most recent registration form to the appropriate governing body. They will complete their portion and return the form to our office. Please note that most jurisdictions require a fee to complete these verification forms and failure to send the fee may result in a delay. Evidence of Good Character Receipt of satisfactory evidence that you are competent in and have a comprehension of the English language sufficient to enable you to practise as a Registered Nurse. ALL applicants for registration as a Registered Nurse in Saskatchewan, for whom English is NOT their first language, are required to meet the English language requirements as set forth by the SRNA. Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
Getting a job is pretty straightforward as long as you have the appropriate experience and are not newly qualified. Shortages are usually in specialist areas such as ICU, if you only have "General" eperience it isn't as easy to get a job.
The problem is getting all the information you need in order to register, this is the frustrating and time consuming part. You will need a transcript of your course and verification from the NMC that you are registered - of course this all has a cost!! You need a reference from your current employer and a detailed breakdown of your skills and experience. I have written references for nurses applying for registration in Australia and they want a lot of detail, the one I got for Ontario was nowhere near as detailed - but not sure what they are asking for in Saskatchewan. The exam can be taken after you arrive as you can work on a Temporary Registration. Some nurses fly over and take the exam beforehand, it may help if you haven't already secured a job as some hospitals want you to be fully registered before starting work - it depends whether they are used to recruiting from abroad. The format of the exam has changed since I did mine but I work with a nurse who tutors foreign nurses, she said if you are from the UK it is still pretty straightforward. Be prepared for nursing to be very different over here. I find it pretty backwards, there is no autonomy, care isn't as patient-centred and there is a lot of repetitive paperwork. You get fewer holidays and "seniority" is a big issue as you will be at the bottom of the pile. We don't find out until the end of May whether we have got our summer holiday requests so it is impossible to book holidays until the last minute - this is a big problem on our unit as we have lots of foreign nurses. On a positive note I get paid more over here for a lot less responsibility - I was a Sister in the UK but am a staff nurse over here. I do the job to the best of my ability but forget about it when I come home and enjoy my time off!! |

Perhaps now we will see a retraction and an apology from the uninformed small (in more ways than one) person posting previously.

Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
Rich, (although I doubt very much you are)
When youve finished scouring this web site passing on your information? you may have time to remove your head from up your arse. Have you ever heard the saying 'Dont believe everything you read'????? I believe its quite popular. What you spend all day reading about on web sites is far removed from what happens in reality. So drown us all in your make belief............I prefer the real world. I refer you back to your profile 'I am NOT an expert on Canada' Your words not mine...........I rest my case, Regards, Midget............I may be small........but Im right. ps I look forward to your reply (in about 5 seconds) Have you really nothing better to do? ( Over 2000 posts.............sad) |
Re: Nursing in Saskatchewan?
The quoted website shows the reality for which UK nurses have to accept when having their application for registration processed. It is not a case of buying a tin of beans, as explained earlier.
As far as my wealth is concerned, what matter is it of you ? Are you insecure and jealous of more wealthy people (whether myself being included is irrelevant). As far as my posts are concerned, what does it matter to you how many or why ? Does that mean every high-posting person is worthy of your vile scorn ? You are a racist homophobic troll as proven by previous sickening meandering replies and you enjoy arguing and insulting people on the entire Expats fora. That you actually exist on this forum reflects the depths to which Expats is being dragged down. You sicken me, you undeveloped immature grunt. Rich. |
