Hi thanks for your reply, will have a look at the YWCA. The assessment is at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Surrey Campus.

I've heard lots of good things about the YWCA, and nothing bad. It is in a great location.

To get to Kwantlen College in Surrey you take the Sky Train (Expo line) to Scott Road then the 319 bus. It should take about an hour, but leave LOTS of time to spare because the last thing you want to do is arrive at an exam in a flurry.

You will not be travelling through the prettiest parts of the Lower Mainland, but hey ho.

Hey Hannah congratulations on getting the job

It will be cheaper to get the day transit pass $9.00 on the day of the assessment,it is good until the end of the transit
services in the early morning hours. You can do some sightseeing after the assessment.

The main Vancouver Library is about 2 blocks from the Y and there are shops
in the library that sell transit passes. Anyway good luck with the assessment.

Hi Scott, I am a registered nurse and health visitor in Sheffield UK, and i am looking to relocate to Vancouver with my family in the next 12 months. Do you know if there is a similar role to health visitor/ specialist community public health nurse in Canada? My work is in primary care mainly with families with children under 5 yrs. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

I was initially in contact with an organisation known as Healthmatch BC and they were helpful with regards to immigration options etc. However once I accepted employment, it was a case of finding things out for myself. Upon arrival, my employer did very little to help. A few of us used a relocation company recommended by and paid for by the employer however I found the service pretty basic and no help was given in regards to finding accommodation.
Another important factor, for Mental Health Nurses considering employment with BCMHAS at Riverview, is that Riveriew is being downsized and if your speciality is Adult servcies, beware that you are now highly likely to be placed in Geriatric services). I hope this info helps in some way.

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new to this site and was wondering if anyone had the time to spare to send me some information.

I am currently in my first year as a student nurse but once I graduate would love to be able to move over to Canada as soon as possible.

There is such a wealth of information not only though allnurses, google etc but on this site and it is difficult to know where to look and what to take a truth or fiction.

If anyone has any time to spare could they please give me a play by play of what I need to do to get over there. Its not that I am too lazy to research it myself, I just dont know where to start!

Many thanks
Liz

You need to make sure whilst at university that you get both clinical and theory in Mental health, Paeds, Obstetrics as well as general adult as Canadian training is like USA training and general trained. Once you are qualified check out the province college of registered nurses and check out the process for IEN (international educated nurse) as things may change. Complete application and wait for results. If eligible then look for employer and start process.
