Nurses!

Hi all! This is my first post here - please be gentle!

Just wondering if anyone knows what the nursing differences are between Canada and the UK?

Just looking into things at the moment, and wondered how different it would be compared to what i do at home. Currently working in a regional Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, have been there almost 3 years and qualified just over 4.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

thanks xx

One of my daughters nursed in the trauma unit of a big hospital in Toronto, then emigrated to London and did the same in a similar facility there. She said she liked the UK better in that she felt more of a medical team, there wasn't the constant battle to get ahead by blaming mistakes on workplace rivals. Otherwise though she said it wasn't that different, the quality of care depended more on who was on shift at the time of admission than which country the patient was in. In neither place did she have any seniority so, although she was able to take long holidays by smashing shifts together, they were never at ideal times.

I'm a nurse here in vancouver, I moved here last July from the UK. I trained in the UK, so feel free to me ask any questions - I may be able to answer them!!!

Welcome to BE!

There are many thread on nursing in Canada - and how difficult it is to qualify and the differences in responsibilities - on BE. Could I suggest you do a quick search? If you click on advanced, and then 'by post' and 'Canada' you will find it easier to check which ones are relevant.
