From looking at the CNO website, it looks like to register as a nurse in Ontario, you first need a job offer.
Does anyone have experience with this?
My sister wants to move to Ontario from England she is a registered nurse, she had planned on completing the registration for Ontario Nursing, then look for a job. Is that not the right way around to do it?
Whats the first step here?
Thanks!

last time I looked at their website you didn't need a job offer to register with the college but the college would not issue a license until in Canada on a valid work permit or PR

She can apply from the uk - you can request the application pack online. It is a long process, so the sooner she starts the better. She needs a degree for ontario - and she may need extra studying especially if she has trained more recently after they split adults/paeds etc.
As silvedragon said, the CNO would not issue a licence until resident in canada or with a work permit.

So could she begin the registration process, and whilst that's trundling along she could do a bridging course, then start applying for jobs? She is a degree nurse, qualified in the past few years.

Where is she planning to do bridging course? If Canada I believe a letter from college is required to confirm bridging is required so that could be months to a year away from happening

She should get her application in as soon as possible. She will not be able to do a bridging course until she has had a letter of direction from CNO. I am not 100% sure, but I think you have to be here (Ontario) to do the bridging course. It has been 5 months since they received my transcripts and I am still waiting just for them to request NMC and employment verification - I am in Canada and unable to do anything (bridging course, or any other nursing related course) as I have not had a letter of direction from CNO.
Once she has the letter of direction from CNO, she will k ow how much more she will need to do in order to be able to sit the CRNE.

MY FRIEND IS A NURSE IN ONTARIO SHE HAS TO HAVE A NURSING LICENCE,
HAS JUST CHANGED JOBS, MOST OF THE HOSPITALS HERE IN ONTARIO ARE ONLY TAKING ON PART TIME NURSES OR NEW GRADS (THE GOV PAYS PARTIAL WAGES FOR THE NEW GRAD). SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF FUNDS AVAILABLE TO COVER LIVING EXPENSES WHEN YOU COME OVER.

So wait for the cno to tell her if she needs the bridging course. I guess there is no point in her applying for jobs till she finds out from cno if she needs to do the bridging course?
She will stay in England until coming here is necessary, then I can support her here in Canada until she's allowed to work here.
How long does this take? I came over on PNP, ex is a scaffolder, it was really easy 6 months got PNP approval, 3 months later we had PR.
Sounds like its a lot harder for nurses!

Last I heard CNO was taking over 12 months to process international trained nurses

I used an nursing agency who have completely failed me (but that's another story)
Anyway here's my view
Even if uk degree trained would still be required to complete bridging course as canadian nurses do not specialise and cover the full life cycle/disciplines
Speaking with the CNO they have advised I apply for both RPN and RN registration at the same time, have given me a time scale of 5 months from receiving all documents, I will get RPN status here in ontario but still need to go through RN registrationin order to enroll on a bridging course so they know where my skills are lacking !
They are reluctant to register anyone until they have confirmation of PR
On a positive your sis will not be worse off as an RPN for a few months as pay about the same as a band 5
Hope this helps
