Default number plates

hi we returned back to the UK. i put my car number plate in the shipping container instead of taking it back to the reg office,
and also left my second plate on my old car that i sold to a friend he said he would destroy the plate !.

is this going to come back to haunt me ?

I doubt it, not unless someone uses the other one to commit a crime or something. The only reason to return them is to get the balance of the fee returned to you, but if you are back in the UK it wouldnt help you out much anyway.
