Nova Scotia Driving..

Can anyone tell me if i will be able to buy a car and insure it in Nova Scotia before i take the driving test? Do insurance companies accept No Claims Discount from the UK? And if so has anyone had any issues using a letter from an insurance company after driving a company car for years??

Cheers

John

Yes you can buy a car and insure it before sitting your driving test. You can drive using your UK licence for 90 days so that gives you plenty time to get organised with a Canadian licence.

I used a local insurance broker and managed to get insured from through Aviva who recognises previous good driving history. My first year's insurance for a 6 month old Honda CRV was around $950 (2007). It is now lower.

You will need a letter from your current insurance company as proof of no claims. :)

We used Johnson's Insurance and they accept UK history. We were also asked to provide a drivers abstract, which you can get from DVLA.
We pay about $800.

We bought our truck second day we had arrived and sat the NS driving test 1 month later, no problems and same as others used a broker and had just used our no claims from insurance in the UK and was accepted (we didn't have a letter from the insurance company just the normal docs we are issued in the UK)
