Re: nova scotia
I just visited Digby for the whale watching. Its glorious in summer though at times it can be nippy due to its proximity to the coast. But we enjoyed the weather and our trip. Compared to larger cities in the west, NS is a tad cheaper - though not by much.
You can find more information on Digby at www.novascotia.ca - check out the Evangaline trail section.

Re: nova scotia
We visited Digby summer 2004 while on a reccy of NS. We stayed at a the Pines Resort - very nice - lots of Americans. The town is small but with everything you would need for day to day shopping etc. We ate the best lobster we have ever tasted in Digby and found the locals and toursits friendly and helpful. We will definately visit again when we land in NS in the near future.
We spent a few hours at Bear River - very arty and pretty houses on stilts - very picturesque.

Interesting clue here..... houses on stilts..... this could well mean it floods here often...or the snow gets so high the only rational approach is to raise the house... or in winter the snow is so high....etc... and when it melts in spring..... etc.... :D |
Re: nova scotia
Bear River is kind of an artsy fartys place but very nice. Lots of bright coloured buildings and the bridge over Bear River is very nice. Digby is an old fishing town that is really done alot to change its image, very pretty now and lots of local shopping and the houses are very reasonable. As for work in theses areas...well I suppose if you were going to be self employed you would do really well but there isn't alot of industry there. I do know of someone that went there from Ontario and all he did was put a sign on his truck and is now doing so much work in Carpentry and Plumbing that he has had to hirer someone. So I guess it really depends on what you want to do. If you are retiring, it would be a nice life style.
