Nova Scotia

Hi all

Yet more questions popping into my frazzled brain!!

We are now unlikely to be able to come out to visit prior to putting in our forms but favour moving to NS

Is there anywhere in UK that you can get video or pics of areas of NS so that we can see what the environment is like

We love rural but not too remote with plenty of land as we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves - however we have to take into account schools and jobs etc

Looking at Bear River or Annapolis area - any views? will probably have to find work in Halifax as am accountant in industry whats the travel time like year-round?

Regards

Martin

NS

Hi Martin,
We are heading for Fall river area which is rural but only 15 mins from halifax and 10 mins from dartmouth. My sister has lived in dartmouth for 7 years, we went over in feb for visit and hubby had interview at burnside industrial park with a driving company. We also have a 3 year old, we looked at pre schools and they were very impressive. We didn't look in at any schools, but from my sister's husband family have kids go to the schools and they say they are excellent, also have the french immersion programme. Have you looked at the mls house site? A good site for information we have is www.sandyhines.com/ some pitures of all areas and lots of local information, hope it helps. keep in touch. Where in liverpool are you?, we live in Burnley.

Re: NS

Hi Wendy

Havent looked at Fall River area but will have a look now - whats the equivalent size town of halifax over here? just so i can get an idea of numbers of jobs available etc - may even be really radical and do something completely different like buying a shop!!

We are in Formby which is in between Liverpool and Southport and is the last reserve of red squirrels in England i believe

Hi Martin
Well I am in Nova Scotia. We live in rural Nova Scotia. We used to live in Dartmouth for many years. Bear river and Annapolis Royal are both very nice communitys, very touristy places so if you were thinking of setting up a business in that sort of industry it would probably go well. Bear River and Annapolis Royal are about 21/2 -3 hours from Halifax Dartmouth. Do you have a map of Nova Scotia? If not go to novascotia.com and get them to send you a tourist guide which includes the map of the province. I guess if you had to compare Nova Scotia with some where in UK I guess it would be Scotland. Lots of farms friendly people. What else can I tell you?

Thanks Corky

That means though that if i am going to be working in Halifax that Bear River and Annapolis is too far away for the daily commute.

I am assuming that if i was to continue as accountant i would probably be looking in Halifax?

So if i need to be 30mins to hour away from Halifax where should we be looking for houses etc

Thanks

Martin

halifax

Hi Martin,
my hubby has just informed me that he has read on a site somewhere that halifax is very similar in size to southampton, and the lay out pretty much the same. Haven't been there so only going off what hub says. As corky says bear river and annapolis is a good 2 hours out of halifax, but if you are looking to open a shop for tourist then good place to look.

Well try having alook in the Annoplis Valley, say Kentville, or Wolfville, New Minas, Hantsport, Windsor They are about 45 mins drive from the city of Halifax or Dartmouth. On the South Shore look for places in Hubbards, Hammonds Plains, Tantallon or Timberlea. You could also go out the Eastern Shore, Porters Lake Lake Echo, Musquodoboit. Also check out some of the job sites. One I can think of now is www.jobspress.com
well that should keep you going for a while. Let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

Hi
we are moving to just outside Halifax (fall river) in a couple of months.
Halifax has a propulation within it's municipal area of about 350 thousand roughly the population of say Croydon.
Road links to halifax are superb with areas such as Fall river being 15-20 mins from the centre of either Dartmouth or Halifax and 10 miles outside which gives it a semi rural feel. Most properties in these areas come with 1-4 acres of land some have municipal water,v.good schooling and enough infarstructure for most people(the west end it ain't though).
Halifax has a european feel with a fair few cosmopolitan shops/cafes etc and is a very picturesque port.
There is an international airport 20 mins from Fall River from which you can access the U.S. /Canadian cities and many european destinations.
PM me if you would like me to send you some photos/info.
Good luck
Mike
