Not a big issue BUT ...
So we at leicester processing centre @ Barclays were made redundant today (we had plenty of notice) .. .. we only went in today for a lovely buffet and to say our goodbyes along with the endless flash of camera's for i assume facebook .. Everyone knows that i/we have been saving for years to go to Canada and have basically gone through the whole process with me .. so although not expecting it ... ok i was hoping .. i thought maybe my work colleagues would spare 29p between the 18 of them and get a good luck card .. NO ..
Hubby when he left to come to England 6 odd years ago got a card from his work mates in a restaurant and it was really touching to know that they cared .. OK all done moaning .. Tight fisted buggas. |
Re: Not a big issue BUT ...
When i left BT I didn't get a card or anything either - it was always part of my job to sort a card and collection for whoever was going and I think no one could be bothered to do it for me.
It's crap and upsetting at the time especially when you've been there for years but I just thought it means I'm doing the right thing in going if they think so little of me. At least you won't miss then now! |

Re: Not a big issue BUT ...
It's a shame that in these tough ecomonic times no-one feels able to wish you well with your new life in Canada, so sorry to hear it ended on such a dampner for you sas-lou :(
Without meaning to rub it in, I have to say I feel very lucky in that I've always got at least a card and usually more when leaving temping jobs, notably the job I did 19th Sept - 3rd Nov this year. I was working in a faculty office at a University, the job ended after 6 weeks 2 days working there and I got 2 leaving lunches (even the Dean attended, and after managing his diary I can say I felt very honoured by that!), a lovely card signed by everyone with well wishing comments, chocolates, a bottle of wine, a manicure kit (embossed with the Uni logo!) and a plant! :o But yeah, I guess if there were a whole load of you being made redundant then the atmosphere would be sombre :( |
Re: Not a big issue BUT ...

I could understand if a lot were getting made redundant, they are in no mood to celebrate the fact that you have sorted yourself out thank you very much.

Re: Not a big issue BUT ...
i caused a huge rumpus when i left. hated my job, REALLY cliquey and full of ar**holes, so did an invite only leaving do.
one woman accosted me in the loos, demanded to know why she hadn't been invited (mainly cos she was a silly cow), then proceeded to tell me that she wouldn't be contributing to my leaving collection. didn't really care cos it all went to charity anyway - didn't want any reminders of my time there and i think it says a lot more about her than me. depute head was gutted, cos she had done heaps of social things, and only 5-10 people ever went. almost everybody invited (about 25) came to my do and we had a great night! |

No .. we were celebrating being made redundant .. we all got great payouts and our workload was getting to the point of ridiculous .. my eldest had a friend come over today and i took them out for a meal .. the child brought my son a novelty pen and a passport holder .. how sweet .. oh and a sorry your leaving card .. anyway, on to pastures new ..
Mind you, I feel compelled to say that my leaving present was a Radley handbag, and purse, and makeup bag. :D |
Re: Not a big issue BUT ...
I agree with the other posters about your move being lost in the whole redundancy thing. To you it's a big move, bigger than theirs, but to them everyone is moving on, you just happen to be moving on in a different place to them.
it's a big move and be proud of yourself for having the guts to do it, you'd probably be amazed how many of them wish they could. |

Its ok, im getting what i really want anyway .. to see my hubby, go on one hell of an adventure and see my children hopefully get a first rate education .. P.S. i leave my house on Friday and am going to spend the weekend at my mum's where i will be completely pampered (not forgetting a from sratch sunday roast), and as im selling all the contents in my house, am currently sitting on the floor with the keyboard on my lap as i sold the computer desk today along with 2 TV's .. the poor kids cant even play on their computer console .. lol .. as the TV went .. oh well going to sell the console in town tomorrow .. not like they can do anything now other that look at it and the games .. hard life for them i know .. they might just pick up a book now .. oh yes .. sold them all too .. lmao |

As a male, my attitude would have been - "Who gives a sht, I'll never see them again anyway."
Most relationships at work are for convenience only. We don't really care about each other!:( |
