Default No Trinkets/Costume Jewellery to be packed into the Container

Hi

Does anybody know why our movers insist that trinkets/costume jewellery is to be packed into our suitcases?

TIA

Possibly because they are concerned that they could get lost or stolen. You will also need to itemise them (and take photos if they are valuable) on your goods to follow lists if you send them with your movers.. or goods accompanying if you have them in your hand luggage. Not all shippers require this so you might want to check out a few others... there's many threads on the subject of shipping

Have you seen our Wiki articles on relocation? They might be of use

Have you asked them why? As previously posted there is no legal reason why they can't be shipped but some shippers have funny rules.

Our shippers (very recent) had no problems at all with costume jewellery (Doree Bonner).

Could the shippers have had a previous problem (or problems) with damage to trinkets and costume jewellery or claimed loss of such, and then the owners had claimed a much greater value in damages????

Hi H1pp0

Our shippers refused any jewelry of any kind in the container - they said it wouldn't be covered by insurance. We had to pack it all in our suitcases.

My mum recently died and left me a lot of, mainly costume, jewelry which I hadn't properly gone through yet so I just chucked it all into bags and put it in a lockable Samsonite case and it made it here ok!

Hi

Thank you for everyone’s replies. Yes it is to do with the insurance. Too late now to change shippers.

Did you take their insurance or go through a 3rd party?

Do you have your goods to follow lists prepared, ready for arrival (if you haven't already had them stamped)?

Try using Letton Percival for insurance, we did, they are much cheaper and didnt have any such stipulations

+1
I would never use the Removals/ Shipping company insurance, go to an independent such as Letton Percival) or through a broker, much cheaper.. hence my question upthread
