Niagara Falls - Visiting

Will be visiting the falls Mid April.

Any suggestions on which side is best to see them.

Best Hotels to stay in for views of the falls from rooms.

Any other advice to make it a good trip.

Will be there for 2 days 1 night.

However I am aware some attractions wont be open till May.. :(
but no choice on time to visit so will have to make te best of it.

Thanks very much

I was treated to a night at the Marriott Hotel in Niagara for my 60th Birthday with a spa package included. We were on the 23rd floor and the views out the big picture window in the bedroom were just amazing.. right overlooking the Canadian Falls you just couldn't get a better location to appreciate them.

On the Canadian side you can get very close to the edge of Horseshoe falls.

The Maid of the Mist boat tour opens in April, exact date subject to ice conditions, so you might be lucky.

Overall the Canadian side is probably the best, but it's still worth going over to the US side because there's stuff to see there in the park area too, so might as well have the full experience.
Not worth venturing further into the town on the US side as there's little to see.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites Hotel just by the Horseshoe Falls. It's not near downtown, but in my opinion that was an advantage as downtown niagara is like a cross between Blackpool and the seedier end of Las Vegas. I can also highly recommend The Keg Restaurant in the Hotel. They do package offers so have a good look at their website.

I like the US side, it's so peaceful, compared to the Blackpool like tourism on the other side, worth checking both sides, it's a nice walk.

Having taken many visitors there I think we have it nailed now.

Park on the Canadian side, walk to the Maid of the Mist, take the trip.

Walk over the bridge to the US, enjoying the view.

Take the trip into the Cave of the Winds.

Walk back having seen only the park and the cave; that's a happy day out.

Back in 2001 we stayed at the newly refurbished Sheraton. Our room was on a high floor with a spectacular view of the falls. Even had a juliet balcony we could open. What an awesome sight it was.

Don't forget to visit the very beautiful town of Niagara on the Lake. I have been there 3 times. It's a must see - in fact I could live there

Was there a couple of weeks ago - stayed over on the way back to Maryland after a university visit with my daughters. We stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Victoria Ave in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It's close to the Clifton Hill tourist area and also within walking distance to the Falls. Hotel was clean - wifi and breakfast included.

I'm not sure that it's worth paying for a hotel room with a view of the Falls unless you get a great deal because, if you're like me, a hotel is somewhere to sleep rather than somewhere to spend a lot of time.

Maid of the Mist opening date is dependent on the ice conditions in the Niagara River. Could open anywhere from mid-April to early May.

www.tripadvisor.com is a great resource for thingslike hotels, restaurants and attractions but lend more weight to the more recent reviews as things can change quickly.

We've stayed at the Marriott and the Hilton and preferred the Marriott, mainly because the view of the Falls is better. Niagara on the Lake is well worth a visit too.

Have lunch or dinner at this place:

Ignore the strip mall location, it is excellent. Also check out some wineries. I quite like Stratus, which is rather fancy (and the wine not cheap):

http://www.stratuswines.com/

and Rancourt (a small, family owned, but rather good place)

Of course there any many others.

In Niagara, if you are feeling cheap then park at the casino and get a players card. Drop a quarter in a slot with your card and you will get free parking. There is also actually quite a nice lounge on the top floor of the casino with very good cocktails:

Generally food in the Falls is beyond awful. If you can avoid eating there I would do so.

We stayed at the Sheraton on the Falls in October. Paid extra for the falls view and booked direct through Sheraton. Cannot fault it and would highly recommend it the view of the 2 falls was amazing through the balcony door, and with the door open the noise was fantastic, (the balcony was only a metal railing!) but it was FAB! Had a double queen with sofa and fire place! The night view was also great! We also did the indoor waterpark deal which was well worth the money and is all connected with the Sheraton and the car park was very near and fine for parking.

Good luck with your trip and try the Sheraton!!

I paid a total of £100 for a night in the Sheraton Falls view with a Full length/2 storey height window overlooking the falls. and 'loft' bedroom.

It was truely amazing, from watching the falls when we got there, them lit up at night, to pressing the button to open the curtains and seeing it from the ebd in the morning.

This hotel offers the best unobstructed view of Both sets of falls aswell as the river supplying. Its a short walk down to a lift type thing that will take you down to right next to the visitors centre on the horseshoe. As soon as you leave the hotel's door, you're getting hit by spray.

If all you want is a night or 2 there, (which I think is all you need) then book this one, or similar!

I had a pretty poor camera then, and for some reason didnt get a shot of both in one, but heres one of many pictures out of the window.
