Question Newby Alert...... House Hunt Question

Hi Guys

I have been in Canada for 6 months on a skilled worker visa, and my partner joined me as my spouse 4 months ago. We chose to rent from her sister in law in Victoria BC at familyrates in a basement suite, but I work in Northern Alberta. It has been fantastic, but the commute isnt practical.............

We have chosen St Albert, AB as our home.......... But, and heres my question.

We are finding it hard to find suitable properties to rent, mainly through to very poor adverts and over the top rates.

Can any one recommend a good way forward?

We have mainly be using Kijiji or rentfaster for our searches. My colleague (irish) says that some expats communicate to others about upcoming rentals they know of, or that they will be vacating.

Any help in this matter would be gratefully received.

Ben

P.S. Its just the 2 of us and our 2 Labrador Retreivers. Ideally looking for a house/bungalow (single residency) as we have found basement life too dark! Would love some garden or yard and maybe a garage.

Albertans are not very good at adverts with many starting with 'Hello'! It's just something to get used too. Also everyone in Alberta has loads of 'oil money' so prices are often mot reasonable, another thing to get used to.
