My wife and I are new to this site and seriously thinking of moving to canada ,which is for the best and not to hard as i was born in calgery and have a canadian passport and my parents are living in Edmonton ca (moved out there last year pnp)we are in the process of doing our sponsorship forms. We are just interested on how long these things take from start to finish, would it also help if i had a job offer in edmonton with a place of residence with my parents :D

Hi, Steve and Lisa.

Read this dicussion thread entitled Share timeline-----Family Class!

I think it is reasonable to expect the entire process, from start to finish, to be completed in about six months, certainly in under a year in most cases.

If that seems long to you, keep in mind that regular permanent residence visa applications in the skilled worker class (not PNP like your parents) are taking 5+ years to get processed.

Some spousal sponsorships go through so quickly that people actually complain they haven't had enough time to prepare for their move!

Yes, I imagine the job would help you, inasmuch as a sponsor has to demonstrate that he/she has the financial means to support the family member whom he/she is sponsoring.

I don't think the assurance of accommodation from your parents will hold much sway with a immigration officer. It's all very nice that your parents are being helpful. In reality it probably will be of great practical use to you when you first arrive in Canada. When my husband and I landed in Canada thirty years ago, we spent our first month living with a distant relative of my husband. That gave us breathing room to find an apartment, buy a car, start job hunting, and so on. But you are the one who is making a formal and binding undertaking on the sponsorship form. It is not your parents.

There is quite a lot of information in the Wiki section of this website.

Hope that helps.

Edited to add this: In hindsight my message seems abrupt, considering that this is your first post on the BE forum. Welcome to the crazy world of BE. :)
