newbie seeking advice

Hi

I've been looking at this forum for the last couple of months and the information it contains has helped tremendously in focussing my mind on applying to work in Canada with my wife and son. I appreciate I am in the very early stages of looking to move to Canada and know realistically that I probably will have to go down the PNP route and that probably means either Alberta or Nova Scotia.

Out of interest is experience of working in occupational health as a regulatory scientist valued as a specialist skill

Quite a few members of this forum also have entered Canada via British Columbia's PNP.

Biologists and Related Scientists are on the Occupations Under Pressure list for BC. Inspectors In Public & Environmental Health & Occupational Health & Safety also appear on that list.

OUP lists are not directly relevant to PNP applications. Rather, OUP lists are relevant to temporary work permit applications. Still, OUP lists give you an indication of the occupations that are in demand in given provinces.

I don't know how close your current occupation is to either of the two mentioned above. But it seems to me that you're in the same general field. So put it this way. I think you have some reason to be optimistic.

Hope that helps.
x

Just want to thank everyone for the positive information. Felt a little swamped and intimidated by all the requirements when you read the websites:)

Welcome to BE. This is a wonderful site and you will get lots of help from everyone - I only wish we had had this support when we moved here to BC in 1980! I am from the Wirral - West Kirby in fact, and I moved to Crosby when I married my Irish husband. Moved to the Vancouver Lower Mainly with our two little ones and have never looked back! I do go back to the Wirral every couple of years all my family live there - it really is a nice spot - but I wouldn't trade Canada for it. Good Luck - Canada desperately needs young people:)

I know I have to take things stage by stage but where do you start applying for a job or a work permit. We are going to the Leeds Expo in Jun to do some research and perhaps circulate my CV if their are appropriate employers there:confused::confused:. Maybe I'll strike lucky first time although I'm not that naive to think so.
The number of forms you have to fill in that appear to duplicate everything that was said on the first form is amazing especially as I work with bureaucracy for a living didn't realise we had exported it so successfully.
