newbie.... help please...
 

hello,
we are a british family wanting to move to canada asap. My partner is a tattooist, i am a business owner over here. We have a sixteen yr old daughter and a nine year old son. My partner had an accident at work several yrs ago, and lost his leg. we have just won the claim and have thousands in the bank. soooo... we thought lets do it our dream and move to canada.

please can anyone explain what visa we need. when to apply. what do we need to do. do we have to get a job first. just totally confused as to which way round we are supposed to do things... please help.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

We have just applied for a Permanent Resident (PR) visa, and are now in the waiting about stage.

Sorry to hear about your partner's situation, but every cloud eh.

Ok, firstly, it takes more than just money to get into Canada, but it does help, lol.

My instant thought was the entrepreneur or self employment route, which requires a lot of cash in the bank. More info here; http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigra...ness/index.asp

Not sure if a tatooist business would qualify, but I've not researched that.

What other skilled/qualifications do you both have?

There's also police checks and medicals to consider.

But this forum is a great place to start!

You might want to have a look at Craigslist for work opportunities. I quite often see places looking for tattoo artists. If you could get a job offer and an LMO that could speed things up a bit.

thanks for that. we have spoken to a visa person and she said a pnp may be in order. we have had a look and self employed one looks right. I am also qualified in sales and banking however dont know who wouldnt be able to do that in canada.

Which PNP were you thinking of? The self-employed route wouldn't work as only certain occupations are eligible, and sales/banking/tattoist aren't among the list I'm afraid. Unless you or your husband have experience (2 years out of the previous 5) in another job on the list maybe?

The investor program may be an option, depending on how much dosh you got as a payout. Entrepreneur program has been suspended for now, but that could also be an option for you.

Failing the above options, you'll need a job offer - have a read of the Job Hunting section of the Wiki to understand how to go about finding one and getting an employer prepared to sponsor you.

Out of curiosity, wouldn't tattoo artists fall under "arts & entertainment". After all, tatts are art (have a couple).

Asking slightly out of interest as my best friend's OH is one of the top guys in my country and they've been thinking of going. Even if just of the IEC.
