New to the site... An introduction.
 

Hello everyone.

I posted a question earlier and then realised that I'd not introduced myself.

I am Vicky I'm 28 and originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I met my now husband in Meadowhall Shopping Centre in May 2010 (he was in England with work) we became inseparable. He unfortunately lost his job due to the economy in Nov 2010 and had to go back to Montreal in Dec 2010 (he proposed just before leaving). I went out to visit in April 2011 for 2 months and we contacted immigration and told them that we wanted me to move here, they said our only option was to get married but to not be suspicious on my next trip (as I was already leaving).

I booked my next flight to Montreal for Dec 2011 with a return date of 3 weeks like I'd been advised, we got married Jan 20th 2012 it was freezing cold and snowing but we had a great day having dinner and then going to the casino. My parents couldn't make it to the wedding so we're having a celebration in 2017 (5years married). Once we got married we applied for sponsorship and I've been here since. May 2013 we welcomed our son into the world.

I received my PR card Oct 2013 so it was faster than expected and now I'm able to travel, my parents have been visiting us so I wanted to be able to go back and get some real fish & chips lol. So we're going for Christmas.

I like Montreal, it took me awhile to adjust as its much different than Wakefield and the French everywhere was a struggle. But I'm learning and where we live is very Anglo. I love the diversity here and the fact there are so many places to eat, it seems that's all people think about lol. I enjoy the summers and even the winters (for about a week) then the snow and cold gets old lol.

I realise I'm probably waffling.

Hi Vicky. My OH is from Barnsley, and went to school (sixth form) in Wakefield. It was lovely to read your story. Hope you continue to be as happy in Canada as you sound.

I am keeping an eye on your other thread for good ideas, as my Mum is coming over in December :thumbsup:

Oh god please dont let this turn into a thread about Hey Im from Yorkshire as well or swapping stories about Yorkshire or talking about the Last of the summer wine and composing sentences of Eee by gum lass hes a reight bobby dazzler or does tha no where to get sum Yorkshire Gold tea bags.

Im not a big fan of yoghurt or other dairy products containing culture.
If you are referring to the other type of culture then using that with Yorkshire is a bit of an oxymoron.
Its like saying people from Essex are highly intelligent and speak the Queens English.
