New to site
 

Hi all!
New to site and Im trying to emigrate to Canada however in the very early stages. Im a teacher, male of 9 to 13 year olds and OH is a nurse. Any ideas or tips from people would be great who have managed to do so. Where to live etc.

Hi and welcome to the site. We are not going as skilled workers but you will find loads of help on here. Try going into the immigration forum and searching threads, you'll find lots, also the wiki has loads of information.Theres bound to be someone with same criteria as you both. Good luck:thumbsup:

You would have no problem finding jobs in the East as many professionals have moved West where the oil prosperity is causing a boom. I guess that means you would get a job out West too. I'm sure someone will know.

Our A&E in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, was closed again last night due to lack of staff not lack of cash, and or local schools often need to get relief teachers. Chain saw down today!

Welcome to the site......

Nursing, good, probably able to find a job albeit with a need to requalify.
Teaching, bad, very difficult to break into in Canada.

Suggest reading the 'wiki' and doing some searches for 'nursing', 'teaching' etc.

Hi,

I know nothing about teaching or nursing in Canada but just wanted to say best of luck! We're currently considering which area to go to as well - at the mo it's between Alberta, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Very tricky deciding, especially as we won't have time to visit all three I don't think (hubby has already been offered a job out there - flexible office location though - so we've got to decide fairly soon). We're going to have to decide on one and then do a recce for that area - will let you know how we get on!

At least if you're applying for PR via the skilled worker route you'll have around 5 years to make a decision on where to live and to visit lots of different areas!! That's the one and only benefit of such a long processing time for that visa I guess!

It's your nurse who's going to get you into Canada -- at least if you want to relocate some time this century.

What age does the elementary age go up to there? We are looking to move to somewhere in BC but are unsure where to go but would prefer the coast if possible. Any advice would be brill, thanks again.

The range of grades within elementary schools vary school district to school district. And, confusingly, there can be different systems within the same school district. Usually the schools go K-6, but some schools might go K-5 or K-7. It depends on if that school district has a middle school, a junior secondary school, or if students go straight into a secondary school.

Howdy!

I'm hear in Calgary and was interested by your posting.

From the little knowledge I have of Teaching here (Alberta). I think the wages are not as great as what you'd get in the UK. On the upside Nursing is bountful and well paid. Still, living here (Calgary) is expensive in terms of Housing, so come prepared. While it's true that many are moving West from the East Coast, lots of them are heading back because of the cost of living here. Coming from the UK I doubt that you'll notice this as much since the cost of living here is favourable compared to the UK.

There is so much potential for having a great lifestyle here - just don't look for 'Only fools And Horses' on the telly ...TV is crap here! Really!
