New Regulations - Language abilities

Hi everyone:

Referring to the new points grid just released today, say I have basic proficency in French (speak, listen, read and write), will I get 4 points (i.e. 1 point for each ability) or would I get just 1 or2 points for everything? According to my understanding it should be 4 points, since it says "per ability", but I'm not sure. Please clarify

Thanks,
Neel

Re: New Regulations - Language abilities

you may even get 8 points from how I read it...

It says for Basic proficiency in the second language, you get 1 OR 2 points per ability......so you may end up getting 2 points for each for all 4 abilities; the same number of points for basic proficiecy as you would for High or Moderate proficiency.....which doesn't make much sense to me, but hey I ain't arguing cause it may just be my ticket in the door.

Vive la france. oui?

Re: New Regulations - Language abilities

Points in the language factor will be given for each ability and based on the formal
assessment/certification or tests done through approved organization before
submission of the application. There will be no more language skills assessment
during interview. Unfortunately we don't know yet for sure what those organizations
will be and what results will be accepted at what level. We need to wait for
Immigration Manual to see that.
