You're in New Brunswick and it's only just passed lunchtime there.

It's definitely too early for you. ;)

Lots of buffering this afternoon - rather spoiled MOTD and Football League Show.

Re: New link for British TV

I am finding this a bit slower to buffer lately but once it does go through its buffer routine it works fine

Re: New link for British TV

.. the way things are going here in Canada, live streaming may be less favourable, as there is a lot going on right now with Internet Companies "attempting" to revise their packages/monthly bandwidth usage/caps.

As most of you know, uploading/downloading is at the top of the tree, but live streaming, skype, interactive media, online gaming, flash content on websites .... all eat away at your allowance.

Visit www.openmedia.ca for the lowdown on current events, as reports continue on a daily basis.

All the best!

Downloading is the very thing the IPs want to charge extra for..

Its the unlimited packages that they are targetting, I have a usage limit of 75gb and with all my downloading, streaming and PS3 I have never gone over.

Not working out that way here...with all this streaming malarkey...

Monthly Usage with one day left to be added...(even with Expatshield out of action):

Plan Total - 95 GB, Used - 95.26 GB, Overage - 0.26 GB

Looks like we will owe Mr Rogers for an extra gig or two....seems our streaming is rising month over month.

Total Usage (GB) -Usage Allowance (GB) Additional Usage (GB) -Usage Charge
Dec 5/10 - Jan 4/11 93 95 0 $0.00
Nov 5/10 - Dec 4/10 73 95 0 $0.00
Oct 5/10 - Nov 4/10 61 60 1 $2.00
Sep 5/10 - Oct 4/10 44 60 0 $0.00
Aug 5/10 - Sep 4/10 15 60 0 $0.00

Weird! I've been streaming and torrenting extensively for almost 3 years and never gone over. I think streaming uses more bandwidth than torrenting, which is what I do most.

1 Attachment(s)
ROGERED BY ROGERS

AVAILABLE PACKAGES:

Ultra-Lite - Up to 500 Kbps for $27.99, 2GB Allowance (5 bucks per gig overage)

Lite - Up to 3Mbs for $35.99, 25GB Allowance (2.5 bucks per gig overage)

Express - Up to 10Mps for 46.99, 60GB Allowance (2 bucks per gig overage)

Extreme - Up to 10Mbps for $59.99, 95GB Allowance (1.5 bucks per gig overage)

Extreme Plus - Up to 25Mbps for $69.99, 125GB Allowance (1.25 bucks per gig overage)

Ultimate - Up to 70Mbps for $99.99, 175GB Allowance (50 cents per gig overage
)

A bit more choice in NB.....would be nice....besides Bell Alliant Attached is a screenshot showing my speed this evening. Considering this was on a laptop over a wireless connection, with another wireless computer merrily streaming 'Sun, Sand and Suspicious Parents'....the 10.19mbs download is pretty decent.

We have had a little discussion today - me and Rogers, it got to me about to give my credit card details to cancel all 3 contracts we have with them when they said hmm well maybe we could waive it this time but you do need a roaming plan when you leave the country ( no shit sherlock?!)

They finally waived it but I was crapping myself that I was gonna have to cancel the 3!!

Thats a pretty good speed there sapper - I may try a month on the package you are on(I am on the one lower) and see what i get out of it

I think 90% i am going to change back to Aliant in May as I havent been very happy with my speeds , 4.5 most of the time

It's a strange world...and the very reason I moved from Aliant. It was awful what they were delivering to my place.

I am getting a discounted rate at the moment....I don't bundle so I can retain a little bit of the initiative...if I feel the need to tell them to poke it. I have my own Rogers modem...bought on Ebay...for 10 bucks.

The speed you are on is fine, I wanted more bandwidth not more speed.

Is Aliant really unlimited at least for now (withing reasonable limits)...?

I ended up with:
Details for January 05, 2011 - February 04, 2011
Usage to date: 96.05 GB
Additional Use Charges: $1.50

Your current bill (less cell phones)....

Internet: 47.99
Home Phone: 24.67
Your current bill (before taxes): $72.66
HST: 9.44
Total: $82.10

Savings - You saved $17.95 on your Rogers services.

Re: New link for British TV

Right now I am on a completely free deal from Rogers from when I bought the house last May - Free TV - phone and internet for a year so I cant complain too much :D

I was on Aliant in my last house and found it a hell of a lot faster and no cap limits ( I only moved 300 yards so I expect it too be the same in this house )

As I say , I may upgrade to the package you have for the last month and see if its any better - I do a hell of a lot of streaming and downloading so I really could do with the extra speed

Not at all .... it's a "cash grab" across the entire internet packages, with harsh costs, especially here in our part of Canada. The biggest issue being, the penalty for going over the Caps ($2 for High Speed Lite/Standars - and $1 for Extreme, Warp, Nitro I believe?)

People say it's pushing people to move up to the next package, or it's simply moving towards "pay as you go" .... either way, it's not winning awards with the Canadian Public.

All the best.

NorfolkNumpty Feb 5th 2011 8:47 pm

Re: New link for British TV

Its the smaller providers who buy bandwidth from the larger players and provide unklimited packages who are under threat. The CRTC ruling means that Bell, Shaw. Etc can get away with not selling the bandwidth

Re: New link for British TV

... in a way, that is correct.

You said "unlimited packages" ... and didn't draw attention to smaller providers, like Teksavvy etc.

Regardless, it's going to hurt many groups of people, not just the "bandwidth hogs" ... but as we know, discussions are still in progress, so we will see how it all shakes out come 1st March.

All the best.

Good news - I've got BBC iPlayer working in the US (recorded programmes only, not live, but that's OK with me).

No more feeling annoyed that I've paid my licence to fund the BBC, but am not able to watch the programmes...

I followed the instructions at http://www.stabeler.com/blog/533/How...orking_abroad/ and it worked first time. Easy peasy.

I just had a brief look at those instructions.

They may not be hugely complicated but
