Agree - we just did Edinburgh-Frankfurt-Toronto for 216 GBP, it was sold as Lufthansa but was actually code share so the transatlantic sector was Air Canada. Edinburgh-Heathrow-Toronto on Air Canada came in at 566 GBP. Crazy!

Okay so it's going east to go west but really, you need much less transit time at Frankfurt than Heathrow, and the connections worked out better for us so bizarrely our total travel time was about an hour shorter.

That's interesting. How are these flights arranged? Is it a specialist travel Agent, direct with the airline? or via a travel agent from abroad?
(excuse my ignorance)

Thanks Cov.

It is from a poem by William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939)

He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

These ones were Expedia - I usually scoff at their quotes but this time they were the best of the bunch. They're a bit hit and miss, but you could choose their "advanced search options" bit and force the system to route you through Frankfurt (I'm only saying Frankfurt because I don't know anything about Amsterdam routes, certainly with Air Canada being in the same alliance as Lufthansa Frankfurt's a good bet). Or a travel agent should be able to search that way too.

When we lived down south I used to monitor London-Calgary with AC and Frankfurt-Calgary with AC (although many times it was a Lufthansa codeshare flight) and the saving was always about 150 GBP. Can't find any links now but I've read about particularly leisure business class flyers buying themselves for example a London-Vienna flight, then joining a Vienna-back to London-New York flight and saving over a thousand pounds on the published London-New York fare. Crazy, isn't it?!

If you wanted to make sure you were on Air Canada rather than Lufthansa (but I love both!) I think the codeshare flights tend to be 4 digits so you can spot them that way. This may not be a steadfast rule, just my observation from hours of trawling the web!

Happy searching

As for Canada, it is more than "only my dreams" that CIC requires us to bring, though I do believe, they are the most valuable we have to give for its future.

Despite the importance of our abilty to "get established" emmigration/immigration has always been primarily about dreams. It is our ability to maintain our dreams under the crushing weight of realitys tread, that gives us the strength to face up to its challenges.

So perhaps Yeats applys to our topic more, than initially meets the eye.

Easily said I admit........

Hi Julius.
I am also thinking about moving back to the UK.Please can you explain more about the valid papers you spoke of in ref to returning to the UK.Thanks

I think Julius is long gone. Perhaps send him a PM (private message - click on the poster's name on the left side of the message and a drop menu appears) or enquire in the 'moving back to the UK' forum.

I kind of think the papers Julius was referring to were papers to get back into Canada if he decided he wanted to return back to Canada after returning back to the UK. -- I think! Not sure!

Hi there.
Bonny here. I just checked you profile and see you are a Canadian living in England. I have a question for you regarding visa's. If and when I move back to the UK my Canadian boyfriend will be coming over as well. Have you any info to help him.

I'm honestly not familiar with the variety of ways a Canadian can get a visa to live, work, study, etc in Britain. All the Canadians I know in the UK are here on UK ancestry or academic visas but I think there are a lot of options.

Does you boyfriend have a British grandparent?

Here's some info though:

good luck!
