Networking for Jobs?

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any advice for potentially networking with Canadian employers, recruiters etc. My initial searches on Job Bank are encouraging in terms of the availability of jobs in my desired field, but I'm under no illusions that getting one is not going to be easy. I also find the LIMA thing a little difficult to understand, begging the question: How do you get a valid job offer prior to receiving an ITA?

My primary role is in HR Management/Business Partnering, but also Senior Retail Management roles also.

I am keen to be maybe start networking with Canadian employers via LinkedIn or other channels. Has anyone had any success on this front, or using that approach? If not, how have others gone about getting valid job offers?

Thanks again for your advice

- Ross

Have you read the Job Hunting section of the Wiki? Tons of useful info in there.

Having said that though, you said previously you were applying for EE next month with a CRS score of 454, so you won't need an LMIA/job offer to get an ITA. So you would probably be best just waiting until you have PR and are over in Canada, you'll be much more attractive to employers once you're instantly employable.

Good luck.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it.

I haven't checked the Wiki, but will be doing so right now 😁.

And hopefully I won't need to rely on the job offer prior to an ITA, it's just the cautious part of me that would want to get a job sorted before getting out there (if that's possible).

In all honesty, it's not terribly likely, but worth a try at least! As you'll see from the Wiki, it's all about personal contact so applying for stuff via Linked In etc just isn't likely to result in anything. But you don't need a LMIA for extra points, so can forget that confusion at least.

Grab a cuppa and get reading the Wiki, it should help you understand how the hiring culture works in Canada.
