need your advice

Hi everyone, I'm now considering where to live!

Ottawa - big place but seems rather boring and very expensive housing wise
Barrie - smaller than Ottawa but good links to Ottawa and what seems to be more affordable housing but apparently very dead in the winter.
Orillia - only a suggestion from a friend but know very little about it

I need a good social life. I'd welcome any of your valuable insight.

many thanks

Hi, welcome to BE.

Do you already have a visa? If not, which visa route will you be going down - will it mean you need a job offer/sponsorship and if so, what kind of job?

Do I need a visa? I'm a British citizen. I work remotely as a technical writer for a US startup

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood, I thought you wanted to move permanently/longer term. If you just want to visit for up to 6 months and work remotely then you're all good.

Just bear in mind you won't be eligible for healthcare as a visitor, so make sure you have good insurance. But at least if you're working remotely then all you need is good internet connection.

Best of luck.

That's what it sounded like from another post

I see what you're saying, I didn't know there were such rules. I'm just now starting to look into it. Yes, I was thinking about immigration, but it's very difficult for me to understand visa issues, I've never got a visa before

It sounds like you need to start another thread "What visa might I qualify for?" And give information about your job situation, and age which can affect visa eligibility (working holiday visa) and how likely you are to obtain at least one other visa type.

Yes if you want to move to any other country in the world you need a visa allowing you to do so (previously you could have moved to the EU under freedom of movement without one, but Brexit scuppered that!). The Canadian government website has a useful visa eligibility tool on their website, so I'd start with that - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...nada-tool.html

And then do shout with any questions, we have a lot of folks on this forum who can help you if you're not sure of anything.

Good luck.
