Hi i am wondering I am a single mom with 2 small kids. I have met an Australian man. Because I am unable to take the kids out of the country he will willingly move here. Now I know i will not pass a financial assessment which canadian sponsership applications require I have not worked much. we want to be together soon and marry he lives too far away to afford travelling so much. If he comes for a visit or I go there and we marry can he get into canda easier and faster. Would we have to marry in canada or could we go to Au and then come back? If I did not pass the financial assessment when sponsering my "husband " could he be sent back and what If he had money of his own he plans on selling his house etc prior to coming. Need some of these answered, I guess our immigration is on strike or something I can't get anyone on the phone and we want to make some plans for our future. I just need to know how much a person needs to make to pass the assesment and if not can they refuse your fiance or husband. can you get in trouble for marrying before the application is done or is it the only way to assure they can come in and stay. we are eager to be together like I say he lives way too far away to keep this progressing. THANKS

If you were married you could sponsor him and there are no real financial criteria to
meet. As an Aussie he can enter Canada without a visa to visit, but not to stay.
However, if you sponsor him it may well be possible to complete the process in
Canada. Jim Humphries

OK Thank you. Would it make a difference where we were married? Would it be beter in Canada since he will be moving here or does it matter. Once he is here after we are married we can start to paper work then and he is able to remain in Canada during the process? Also what about work would he have to have a job already or apply to have a work visa. Does his education play an important role, he does not have grade 12.

Hi:
There is no financial criteria for the sponsorship of spouses. Therefore, you may
want to consider sponsoring your fiancee after you have married.
If you sponsor your spouse within Canada, he will be entitled to remain in Canada
while his application for Canadian permanent residency is processing. To remain in
Canada he must continue to have valid status. He will be entitled to apply for a
visitor visa extension. Once his application is approved in principal, he will be
entitled to apply for an employment authorization.
