Re: Need advice re Nova Scotia
I can highly recommend a look at the South Shore, we have been here for 4.5 months now and love it. We enjoy a wide varied social life, can boast a really good network of friends and contacts, you can get most shopping done here, and we are also 1.5 hours from Halifax for more serious shopping.
And property prices are quite good too. there are plenty of jobs going in the medical professions here, always something being advertised. The RDA in Lunenburg/Queens are well motivated. And I would be happy to meet up if you want to when you have a reccie. |

Hi all,
My hubby and i are looking to move to Nova Scotia in 2014. After spending several months of 2010/2011 on a working holiday visa checking out Vancouver and The Atlantic Provinces we feel NS is definitely for us. Neither of our occupations meet any categories on skilled worker list and we are wondering if anyone else had this problem? It would be so much easier if we were on there. We're both in our late 20's and are anxious to get there to start our 'New life'. We figure the best option is to look at a years working holiday visa and hope to get job offers to allow us to stay. We are doing a fact finding trip in April this year, visiting Halifax and Sydney NS so if anyone has any advice of places to visit we'd appreciate it. Thanks |
Re: Need advice re Nova Scotia
Renting here can be hard as theres not many options anyway. I do know that my friends rent down in Fall River area with their dogs - unfurnished at $1500
Other friends I know got a cottage out of season that was furnished that allowed pets at $700 a month but it was small, old and they said freezing cold. Still, it had a beautiful view over St Margarets Bay. They could only rent it over the winter as the owners wanted it back in the summer months. Rent can be expensive here. |
Re: Need advice re Nova Scotia
I've looked at quite a few websites with property rentals and the cost does seem quite high- especially when property to buy is cheap compared to the UK. Is there a reason for this? Is renting not a common thing over there? If anyone knows of any good websites for house rentals (not apartments) I'd be grateful to hear of them. I havn't managed to find the canadian equivalent of a 'rightmove'.

Me and my husband are looking at doing EXACTLY the same thing! We are both 26, have a house and 2 dogs, but as neither of our jobs are on the skilled workers list (web editor and business developer) we plan to go to Nova Scotia on a years work permit in June with the intention of getting a job offer while we are out there that will allow us to stay. Alternatively I've been looking at the Community Identified Stream as I'm really interested in voluntary work so that might be a better route to take. With regards to the move, we are going to rent out our house in England and put our furniture in storage, and bring our 2 dogs with us on the flight to Halifax... rent out a dog friendly house somewhere near halifax and just keep our fingers crossed that it works out! If things go to plan then we'll sell our house in England and use the money to buy our own home in Canada. Sounds simple but I'm sure it won't be! I'd be interested to hear about any ideas you have or how your plans are coming along as we seem to be in the same boat.
