Mt Washington Alpine Resort..anyone experience it..??
 

We are thinking about venturing up to Mt Washington this winter.

Anyone been there..?? any comments on it..?? or even have accomodation to rent out for a weekend etc..??

would love to hear from others who have been there..planning on going there etc....our son is looking forward to snow tubing..(whispers) and me too ;)

Was up on Mt Washington last week, looked awesome. Be even better when it is covered in snow.....! But Whistler had its first big dump this week. Was up there today playing in the snow with the kids. Heres to another great season:thumbsup::thumbsup:

We haven't experienced Mount Washington in the winter yet - went up a couple of weeks ago on a glorious sunny day and it looked fantastic. We have booked a 5 day "stay and ski" package for just after the New Year. My daughter, her husband and little boy are coming for a month over Christmas and we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to learn to ski!
The package includes 5 nights accomodation at Bear Lodge in an apartment (3 bed, 2 bathrooms), 5 days lift passes, 8 hours of ski lessons, a 3 hour snow tubing pass, an apres ski social and a grande finale dinner. My grandson will also be able to have lessons as they cater for 2-5 year olds.

how lovely for you that your family are coiming over....:) sounds like you are well organised.....and would be so cute to see the little one in his snow gear and little skis!.....please share some photos when the time comes.

I have been thinking we may be able to venture up there for a weekend...dont' know what the costs will be. i saw the early bird specials on the web site. looks like excellent value!

I've been there many times. :thumbup:

If you're an avid black diamond type skier, you'll get bored quickly but if you're like me, and like easy-going blue runs and just having fun both on and off the slope, (and without the snobbery you can run into at the big resorts) you'll be fine.

... and rent a chalet. I've stayed in the 'condos' and IMO, they're lame... too many people, too 'modern', too ugh feeling.... like living in a mall. The chalets are in amongst the trees, you can leap from hot saunas into the snow, woodfire places, have to hike in or take a snowcat, etc... just a more relaxed, rustic, time. IMO.

Also, if you can go during the week and not the weekend, it will be less busy and you'll avoid a lot of people who go to 'party hardy' for the weekend.

I have found three days, two nights is good... with one day doing something else instead of downhill. Cross country skiing is great there. Or just snow-shoeing or hiking about.

We looked at the chalets but thought, for a first trip, the packages are excellent value for the 4 beginners in our party (better not let my daughter hear me calling her and her OH beginners:eek:)

If we enjoy it then I'll be asking you to recommend a chalet for our next trip!

Nothing wrong with the condos! I would stay in them again. There are perfectly fine. Just compared to the chalets, the chalets are better for what I like when I go skiing. The condos are a bit hotel-ish and when I am in the mountains I want rustic.

And actually... if you are beginners the condos have easier access to the lifts... the chalets mean a lot of walking, carrying skiis or feeling fine skiing out.

Either way... it's a great little resort! And it's the night time tubing that is all that matters! :lol: :thumbup:

talking to some people who work up at the mountain, the early bird tickets go fast. although you take the risk of not being able to use them because there can be no snow at all like in winter 04/05...
if you are used to the powdery inland snow... due to its location closest to the ocean mount washington has "concrete powder" :eek: (the words of a young ambitious ski acrobat living in golden bc i met last year) which means it is really wet snow which can get hard pretty fast.

thanks everyone!

i have never skiid..or ever moved on snow..other than to walk on it...and then it was either on a road or foot path!...so is going to be an interesting first experience.

i love the thought of those chalets.......:thumbup:
