There's some great info on the thread entitled 'Hi I'm New' started by alberta_jaycee. Most of it discusses Edmonton and places in and around to live and raise your family.

Hope this helps.

Hi - we live in West Ed but I have not heard of Acheson.....not sure if you've already moved by now as this post is a few pages old but if you still want advice maybe I can help.....we have been in West Ed in different parts of it for 7 years so I know quite a few of the areas.....presently we're in Britannia Youngstown which the Realtor said is a 7/10 area....I think it is probably more of a 6/10 myself but altho there are some rough edges it is alright and house prices are lower than in the posher bits of West Ed...all depends what rung on the ladder you wish to live on ! Glenora is the dead posh part.

Mostly tho the best thing to do is just drive around the streets in an area you are drawn to and start to look at houses and prices and get a feel for it all before you jump in. there are so many nice quiet side streets that children are safe to play on and they might only be a 6/10 area but they are ok.

By the way we have a GREEEAT Realtor we can recommend. He has the Midas touch (not just for himself but for you too !). His name is John JurAC AND HE WORKS (oops sorry caps lock) for Reimax in their downtown locaiton. I can get you his number if u like. If you are selling he will get you $10k more than any other Realtor and if you are buying he will size up your real needs (not his) in an instant and find you exactly what you need plus advise on investment properties if u r into that. He is a very fine fellow.
