moving to Regina soon
Hi Everyone,
I have just joined BE and wanted to introduce myself. I am soon to be moving to Regina with my OH and daughter (11). My OH works in construction and got a job offer out there. I am a Pastry chef and hope it won't be too hard for me to get a job once we arrive. Thanks to my OH's company I too am issued a work permit. We have been out before to see what we're getting ourselves into lol. I also have family in Vancouver. Really looking forward to moving and can't wait for the adventure to start. I noticed a few people will be out there shortly, good luck and hope all goes smoothly for you. |

Hi, and welcome to BE.
Loads of people seem to be moving to Regina, so you'll find lots of useful threads around if you have a hunt. You getting a work permit has nothing to do with your OHs company by the way, if you qualify for a spousal open work permit then you can just get it at the airport when you arrive. Good luck with the move. |

It was my OH company that told me about this so thought they had something to do with it. |

Hi PearlyQueen,
We will be going out to Regina on 31st October - can't wait! My husband also works in construction! Do you know yet where you're hoping to move to in the city? What date do you expect to be there? Questions, questions! |

Questions, questions! When we went out there for our visit we visited a few new neighbourhoods and I quite like the idea of living at Harbour Landings. Shopping, park and restaurants all nearby. Have you had a chance to look anywhere yet? Fingers crossed we hope to be there at the end of the month too. Can't bloody wait!! |
Re: moving to Regina soon
We haven't been out there but having looked on the Internet, harbour landings was one we quite liked. I think lakeview or wascana park are current favourites for us though, although that might change once we get there. We are just renting to start with so got a while to get our bearings and work out where we would like to buy.
What about you? Are you renting or buying first off? Will you be working full time with your daughter at school? |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Yeah we will be renting too for a while. I like Harbour Landings but would like to have a good look around before making any decision on where we will buy, you never know, we may change our minds.
Yes I really want to go to work, I love it! but I won't look for a job until we have been out there a couple of months. It will give our daughter (Tia) a chance to settle into school and some free time for me to go shopping and cook fab dinners for my family lol What about you? Will you be working when you get out there? What are your plans for when you first arrive? |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Hello pearly queen,
How long is it until you come over to regina? Ive been here for a year and came back over with the family on christmas day last year. Bet you cant wait to get over? |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Oh, so lucky to have a job you love! Ha!
We will be arriving with our two young children, four and two, so until we work out wht's what with regards to my potential income vs the cost of childcare, we'll just have to play it by ear. I'd love to do something though, as a way to meet people as well as anything else, but we'll have to wait and see what's available. Jay will be starting work work straight away - we land on the Friday night, he starts on Monday - so I think my job for the first week or two will be to find my bearings and then to act as tour guide for Jay on the weekends. With my sense of direction, this has the potential to go very wrong indeed! |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Two young kids, that's a full time job in itself lol.
OMG! Can't believe he starts work that soon, no time to find your bearings at all! If you want to meet up when we get there we can go and find things together. Please know that this may probably not be the case, more like we will get lost together lol. I imagined phoning my husband at work to ask him how to get home after venturing out!! |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Let's do it; let's get lost together!
So I am assuming tht you are from London, PearlyQueen?! We are from Buckinghamshire, so about 20 mins from the west end on a good day, if there is such a thing! When will you know more about possible dates for flying out? |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Cool, I've got a map! can't read it though! Hahaha
Yes I'm from London. When my husband signed his contract his start date was the 20th October but we were told that this date was flexible. We will know more next week. As soon as i know the date of our arrival I will let you know. Feel free to drop me a PM anytime. x |
Re: moving to Regina soon
Well hopefully not long for you then! Maybe see you there in just a few short weeks!
Drop me a PM once you've got your date and we can sort something out. Very exciting! |
