Moving with a parrot
I am planning to move to Canada with my parrot. I understand there is a quarantine required, but they don't mentions centres. Can I quarantine my own parrot or are there centres she must go to?
Thanks |

Re: Moving with a parrot
You will have to have your house passed for the quarantine of your parrot in advance of arrival with the parrot - a room that is away from the main flow of foot traffic with a lock on the outside of the door is what they expect. For this reason, we chose a spare bedroom to quarantine our parrots.
CFIA will meet you at the airport when you land with your parrot, check he/she is healthy and will then come back to your house, either that evening or the next morning to check them again - very minimal check, just that they are upright on a perch !! They come again once or twice in the next 45 days, then sign off quarantine and you are free to move your parrot to wherever in the house he will live! Make sure in advance you have an import licence, CITES documentation, and fitness to fly. PM me if you need any help, Good luck  |

Thanks You'll also have to do a polygraph when you get to Agriculture Canada to be sure you are the birds sponsor. Get caught telling fibs and you'll find yourself before the beak! |

Have you had your sponsorship approved yet?

Thanks for all the great replies.....
Very helpful youse guys. Anyway sounds like you have experience. rach_woz99. I will PM you shortly. No fibbing allowed, parrot sounds just like me when singing "If I were a rich bird", " when the birds come flying in" and "Yankee doodle". Now if only I could get her to sing " take me out to the ball game"... You have to love birds to understand. |

Think this will be quite expensive for you.
