No, they don't make the streets warmer. However, if you've ever been rear ended by a car w/o snow tyres in the winter in Toronto you may have wished that they had put snow tyres on.

When I've been rear ended I've never thought about the other vehicles tyres, I've always blamed the driver. I'm not sold on the merit of snow tyres generally but think they'd be a complete waste of money for driving in Toronto, there's never any snow in the city.

Your thoughts on snow tyres rival those of your anti-metric stance on these boards.

In terms of accidents, it is often a combination of driver error or slow response times plus the handling of the car.

Mel Lastman may not agree with you about the lack of snow in Toronto.

IIRC, snow tyres improve stopping distance and general handling at or below 7c (45 f in old money), which covers a lot of time in Toronto.

I was in Toronto on Friday. Balmy. No need of snow tyres there. I suppose if people want to indulge in recreational snow tyre acquisition that's up to them, rather like recreational use of metric measures. All fine and good so long as they keep it at home and don't try to impose their personal quirks upon the rest of us. I think the use of metric in public is a bit insulting to all those immigrants from metric countries who have moved here and made the effort to learn lbs and feet and so on in order to integrate.

In Ottawa I might look at snow tyres. I didn't when I was there but, at that time, I didn't read this board and so hadn't heard of them.

This seems a good site to look at apartments to rent.

www.gottarent.com

I'm not familiar with agencies as we just went straight to the apartment manager when we wanted our place. We lived there 2 years then bought a house. If you pick somewhere that looks OK, let me know and I can tell you what the area's like.
Many places won't accept pets, but there should still be many that do.

I understood that the rental laws in ONTARIO could not refuse pets.
It is your right to own a pet in rental property providing you are responsible and keep your pets under control.

I rent in Ottawa through a property management company - 3 bed townhouse for just under $1200 (already have property elsewhere and didn't wish to saddle myself with another mortgage!), no problem with pets (have a cat), nice area. In addition to the other sites mentioned by other posters (Kijiji and Craigsllist) try these: CLV group, Minto, Viewit.ca, Timbercreek, Paramount. There are others, just google - there's no shortage of places to rent in Ottawa!
If you need any advice on anything or any places checked out, just PM me.

Just an update. The Ottawa Citizen reports today that rental vacancy rates in Ottawa are at a six-year low, with supply expected to get tighter next year, and prices are rising.

Interest rates are falling. I'd be looking to buy, rather than rent.
