Moving to Nova Scotia

Hi there,
We are planning on moving to Nova Scotia from Ayrshire, is there anyone out there already that can given us an insight into general life. I am a nurse so hopefully going on the strength of that. We're looking for somewhere near hospital or clinic, but semi rural. Any suggestions anybody, it all looks beautiful!!!

It's just perfect here! No regrets and miss nothing. Never lock my house or car. Sun and sea - NS has more sun hours than any other part of Canada - warm too on same latitude as Milan.

Hiya
I'm from Kilmarnock but live down South - we're looking to move to NS in 2 years time - my wife's studying to be adult nurse and I'm studying to be mental health nurse. Good luck...we've never been but have already bought a house...hows that for madness!

Hi Karen,
I live in Darvel, originally from Kilmarnock. I am in the process of applying to be assessed for the exam, just plucking up the courage to part with all my hard earned cash. Are you just going on your own or do you have family going with you? there are five of us going out hopefully. Husband and 3 kids.
Great to hear from people locally, keep in touch.

Hi Karen

Nice to hear from you. We're in Rutland in U.K. at minute - I'm just about finished my second year studying to be mental health nurse and my wife is just about to finish her first year of general nursing. We're hoping to move out to Nova Scotia in about 2 1/2 years time. We'll probably have to get Karen (my wife) a job first and no she hasn't looked at the exam. I'm not sure what I'm going to do as NS don't recognise mental health qualifications unfortunately so if anyone has any ideas let me know. I'm hoping I'll be able to "top up" somehow when I get over there with general nursing experience or work and study. Are you over there at the minute? We're looking at living in Kentville and are coming out for a couple of weeks in the Summer. When did you leave Scotland? I left Killie in 76 when I went to Newcastle Uni and have been down South ever since - made my way to Rutland via London.
All the best
Alex

Hi
I recently moved to Digby, NS from Ontario (I was there for 4 years). I love it here but it's a real culture shock if you're used to being near decent stores etc. I went to buy rabbit food and soya mince on Saturday and it took me 7 hours (I did check out some other stores as well!).

Re: Moving to Nova Scotia

Hi there and welcome!

My nana lives in Kilwinning, a truly beautiful area of Scotland you are in!

We are moving to the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia and have been three times. Nurses are massively in demand, so you should be fine pretty much anywhere in the province. For semi-rural, either the Annapolis/Digby area in general would satisfy that, or the south shore Peggy's cove or Liverpool way. My preference was to those area rather than Truro/Pictou way merely for the scenery and wildlife, although nowhere is short of that.

I think there are plenty of hospitals about, just not too many staff in them!! I know we have Annapolis General in annapolis Royal and there is a hospital in Greenwood, so the province is your oyster!

Good luck,
Rachel

Hi there,
Digby is one of the places we were considering moving to, what are the stores like there and are there any big grocery stores or is it all little ones. Where in Ontario did you live. I have family there in London, Sudbury, Barrie and Kapuskasing. I lived in Aurora nr Newmarket.

My wife's from down south - Dunstable. I moved away in 76 to go to Uni in Newcastle and have lived in England ever since and have two wee English boys. My brother still lives in Killie - I used to know plenty of guys from Onthank...you'll know all the names no doubt - could be a scary place if you goat a lumber and hud tae walk back :-)
