Moving To/Leaving Canada.

Hello,
I'm new to this Message board. Really have Some Questions. I've heard so many different Storie's already, I dont know who or what to belive Anymore.. I Live in the US, My Girl-friend Lives in Canada. Either I want to Move there, or she wants to move here. Either way, I Need some Information on the whole deal. I've heard if you leave Canada, You have to apply for a Visa, which takes up to 5 Yrs.. (Which may I add is Insane if ya Ask me) Also pay $2-4 Grand. Then I heard if you wanted to leave Canada, Noone can make u pay a penny.. You Just get in yur car and Drive right out of there. So I'm Highly confused here. Is it you have to Pay $2-4 Grand if You want to Work in the US Or Canada? Or what it is? I'd really Appricate it if I could have Any Information here. From Moving To / Leaving Canada.. All the Rules, And such. From wanting to work Or not work in Either State. I've been trying to find some RIGHT Information for Awhile now and I have no Luck what so Ever.

Thanking You..

First check out the www.cic.gc.ca site. It is the official Canadian
government immigration site.

No, you don't have to apply for an exit visa to leave Canada. It's not
a communist state LOL!

To move there, however, you *do* need a visa. It is $475 for the
processing fee and $975 to "land" which means to immigrate.
It can take anywhere from a few months to a couple of years to get
one.
It's a lot easier to just drive across the border to "visit your
friend" and get married while you're there. You won't be able to work
for a few months till you get clearance but at least you're not apart.

It's a similar story if you want your girlfriend to immigrate to the
US but I don't know the details.

On a side note I do believe there are tax penalties for directors of a
Canadian based company who become non-resident in Canada but again I
don't have details....
