Moving to Kelowna
Hi! I'm a newbie and been following the various threads.
I'm dual - British and Canadian Citizen. Lived in the Okanagan for 25 years. Had to move back to UK 2 years ago for family reasons. Getting married in July to my lovely Yorkshire bloke! Now.......I'm desperate to get back to the Okanagan and my son. We have decided Kelowna would be the best for us. My son (15) still lives in Penticton and I was only supposed to be here for 6 months, however, 2 years later........BUT....I'm a bit stumped. I know I have to go through the sponsorship process for my fiance - no worries there. However, I'm so confused about what to do and when: 1.Sponsorship first (yes) 2. We own our house in the UK - when to sell? 3. How do we sell when we haven't got a place or know when we can get a house in Kelowna 4. Jobs - I'll be fine - I see jobs everyday I could apply for in Canada- Fiance a fully qualified printer but is willing to do anything to start - what does he do to get one? 5. I know people up and leave all the time, but is there somewhere you can advertise your house, cars, furniture all for sale at once? My house contents are still in storage in Vernon. 6. Don't you have to prove you are moving? Sorry for the long and winded post....but I need advice. Anyone? Anyone? |
Re: Moving to Kelowna
Hi
I'm heading to Kelowna in early April, sponsored by my hubby who has dual British/Canadian citizenship. I live really near you too (about 20 mins away!). We applied for my visa in Nov 05 and received it in April 06, during that time we put the house on the market and have been living in rented for a few months. I was worried how everything was going to pan out too eg timings and co-ordinating everything etc but it will all fall into place, just get started with your application and concentrate on that for now. If you'd like to meet up just send me a pm, I might be able to give you a hand with the application - it nearly drove me round the bend at the time! V |
Re: Moving to Kelowna
Thanks!
I guess you get bogged down by all that needs to be done. If it was just me I'd be on the next plane outta here! However, I need to get the guidelines printed out for the form and start there. As you suggest - first things first. And .....how weird is that - you living close by. I'll definitely get in touch when I get the form started. Thanks so much. I'd love to hear whether you have jobs, are renting a home first, etc etc. Kelowna is wonderful. Congrats! |
Re: Moving to Kelowna
I don't envy either of you on the process of coming over - our application was Inland Spousal, so although we all but ripped out hair at times, we didn't have to attend to all the moving preparations that you face.
annemt4, if you haven't been back in the valley for 2 years, you are bound to see the changes!! The skies are bright & sunny today - beautiful with all the snow still on the ground. Reminds me that I have to get out there with camera in hand. ;) Best of luck to both of you! (waves Hi VC) Oggy |
Re: Moving to Kelowna
I spoke to my son today in Penticton, and he told me you have snow! I look after University accounts in Canada and Western States and UBC Okanagan is one of mine - so I was there recently too! I have the best of both worlds right now!
BTW what is Inland Spousal  - you peaked my interest! Ta! A.M. |
