hi and welcome to the forum and to vancouver island.

i'm afraid you have to be a bit more specific. about the area you intend to settle - vancouver island covers some 32,000 km2, about the job you do - construction is a wide field as well. getting a job depends on your skills as well. there are possibly enough unskilled or semi-skilled (4 month college course in carpentry  or so, which is a bit more than an introduction to the trade and in itself doesn't make a carpenter out of people) labourers around.

residential construction in the mid-island-region (nanaimo - parksville - courtenay) is still hot but might have slowed down a bit over the last few months. but that's only my observation and not backed up with hard facts.

Hi and welcome. As lof said you need to be a bit more specific about jobs/areas. We live in the Cowichan Valley, between Victoria and Nanaimo and there is quite a bit of construction going on here, both residential and commercial. Hope this helps.

Good idea to travel around and find YOUR favourite area to live. The Island is a great place to live and we are sure you will enjoy living here whatever area you choose. Good luck and best wishes!:)

It's a great place especially now the summer is on the way. We are coming up to our first anniversary of being here. It isn't perfect but not far off. Let me know if I can help with any info this end.

Hi vsf :)

Dunno if this helps, it's the Government of Canada jobsearch site http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.aspx

The local newspaper classifieds for Nanaimo/Parksville/Qualicum are available at www.canada.com

Good luck

We moved from Somerset but OH is originally from the Midlands. Are you headed this way for a visit before you move out?

There are lots of construction jobs here and not to many employers can find reliable workers, so if you are reliable you will have work
