Moving Homes - Edmonton
Hi, would anyone have tips on how to move furniture? I just have one double bed and a round table (and probably a few boxes / suitcases I need to take from my current place in 98 ave. to my new place a few blocks away in downtown (a 10 mins. drive).
In London I would have hired a van and the driver and assistant would have done all the loading / unloading. Is there anything similar here? |

We moved across town in Calgary and rented a U-Haul (complete with all the garbage in the cab that the previous renter left) and borrowed a few friends.

Have a look at the notice boards in the supermarkets - Sobey's here have a good one, always see 'man and a van' type ads. Other than there, the classifieds in the free pages, hire a student - I think it's under a different name, something like youth workers or something and a UHAUL.

Surely you can get a friend/workmate to help you. As someone else pointed out, rent a small van from U-Haul and move the few items yourself. That's what most Canadians would do in such circumstances.

Re: Moving Homes - Edmonton
Hi
Sorry this may seem a banal question as you have other things on your mind I'm sure. I'm sitting on an offer of employment in Edmonton and not sure whether to come or not. I was last there 20+ years ago and can't remember a lot, other than I stayed in a YMCA overnight! I was looking really at a move to Calgary. Whats your impression of the place compared with other areas? Thanks Ed |
