Moving to Halifax!
Hi Expats!
My husband has recently accepted a job offer to work in Halifax, so, subject to visa approval, we're hoping to move out in mid-September!
Any hints, tips and advice are very welcome.
Also if anyone has any suggestions or experience of bringing a cat with them on Air Canada, we'd be really grateful as currently weighing up which would be better - taking her in the cargo, cabin or using a specialist pet transport company...
Thanks very much!

If you Google "cats on Air Canada", you will find lots of information, including the following ......
The cat and carrier have to be small enough to fit and stay comfortably under the seat in front of you. The cat has to stay in the carrier throughout the trip.
The cat and carrier counts as one standard item toward your carry-on baggage allowance. The carry-on baggage allowance on AC is 1 standard article 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm including wheels and handles and weighing a maximum of 10 kg (22 lb) and 1 personal article 16 cm x 33 cm x 43 cm, weighing a maximum of 10 kg (22 lb)
You cannot take your cat with you in Premium Economy or International Business Class or if the plane is a three-cabin Boeing 777-300ER (77W) aircraft
There is a restriction on number of cats and small dogs that can be carried in the cabin depending on the aircraft type, and thus the CAT may determine when you travel
You also have to be certain that you are travelling on an Air Canada operated flight. AC does code share and if the AC booked ticket is actually on a plane operated by another airline, then you cannot take the cat on-board. In that case, you would have to book your ticket with the other airline

Re: Moving to Halifax!
Well a great BIG welcome to British Expats What an exciting first post. It all gets a bit alarming when the time to move comes, but the majority of us who have done it have stayed 'relatively' sane
We have a number of posters who are either near, or have experience of Halifax and I am sure they will be happy to help you with any info you may need.
A number of us have brought pets with them too, I brought three cats and a dog and I used a specialist company, but there are a number of posters who have done it by themselves with little hassle, and will gladly help.
Very best of luck

Welcome welcome!!!!
We moved from NS just under a year ago and live now in ON.
We brought our dog over but we booked her in to cargo with Air Transat I think...it's nearly 4 years ago so I forget.
Have you thought about where to live, do you have kids? Lots of families on here are in NS so will be able to help advise where the nice places to live are...

Hi,welcome!!! we live in Nova Scotia, around 40 mins outside of Halifax.
We brought our cat as cargo on the same flight as us when we moved, on Air Canada.
It was something like GBP100 one way and we bought a vari-kennel online from ebay once we measure the cat (interesting moment that), you can get the measurements online, maybe on AC website - I cant recall.
We got all the paperwork filled in by the vet and a rabies jab and we were good to go. AC are excellent with your pet.

Halifax is a lovely small city and if you have work you are already over the biggest hurdle
