Moving from England to Canada
 

Hi,

I have been to Canada but my partner has not I want to visit Canada again over the next few years all different parts with a view to moving to Canada one day. Can you tell me how hard it is to Emigrate to Canada from England also ideas on the the best parts? I would love to visit Vancover one day. My partner and I started our own business up in September he is a sign writer new shops vans etc I wonder how easy it would be for him to find work. Would he be classed as a skilled working? I am a secretary. Any help or advice would be great.

All the criteria are on www.cic.gc.ca There is a assessment test and it's all fairly clear.

It depends on your OWN preferences! Somewhere which is good for me might be terrible for YOU. If you like old European style of buildings, you might like Montreal. If you don't like cold weather, you have to consider West coast. and so on ....
Qualifying as a skilled immigrant is one thing and finding a job is another thing which is the hardest part. You have to start from below zero though you might have high qualifications.
Sometimes when i am in bad mood, I tend to think the whole purpose of getting immigrants for Canadians is to have cab drivers, security guards, grocery workers etc who hold PhD or engineering degrees... But that's when i am disappointed! If you are prepared to wait 2-3 years you might be able to get back to where you where in your country.
just be prepared, don't expect everything to happen over the night. It's where most people tend to forget!

The UK fits into southern Alberta, which isn't even close to being a big province.

The northern tip of Ontario as as far north as Sweden, Toronto is as far south as Rome.

Canada has more surface area than the US.

There are probably still bits of Canada that no human has ever set foot in.

It's also got a lot of good bits :)

I heard that you can drop England into Lake Superior and still have water round the edges.

Space and distance is one of the things that take getting used to. "Local" in Canada is within a half hour drive not a half hour walk.

Tara, you might also qualify under business category.

1st question is apart from Work what do you both like to do?

As pointed out Canada is a big big place and as every other country it has lots off different things to do.

Simple things like Gardening will give you so much to learn depending on where you choose to live.

So first thing first pick up the holiday Brouchers and pick the places you will have the most fun in.

another route for you to take would be the entrepenural one and set up your own businness. There is always room for another good business.
Canada wants people who create employment.

Not like any European cities i've been too!... well to be fair the old port and small bits of the city have a continental european feel... but not the entire place, Montrealis definitely a strange melting-pot of North American brashness with some old european trappings... i like it anyways... :D

Hi Tara,
My Wife is German, and had never step a foot in Canada before in her life. It was a hard sale for me to sale to here the move over here. We have been over here (Calgary) now for 3 years, If you asked her to move back to England or Germany she would tell you no way. Calgary is a magical place, people that come here feel its everything they have every wanted. Yes its not for everyone.

I do a lot of traveling in my job and this is what I have noticed in the following areas

Vancouver / Victoria = Very much like England, very wet and very expensive, very nice place.
Toronto = Very big, very fast and very impersonal.
Montréal = If you speak English wrong place to head for.
Regina = Nice place, very flat, not much to do, COLD in the winter.
