There are lots of good places in Edmonton. We moved over in September last year and are currently renting a house in the west end (The Hamptons) which is lovely. Are you looking to rent first off or buy when you arrive & what type of home are you looking for? House (detached, duplex) or condo? What amenities do you need close by? School? Close to ring road and/or easy commute to a particular part of the city?

I can list out some other decent places if you'd like and then you can do online searches for properties to rent or buy in those areas and set up some appointments for when you're over here next week. We found our current house through an online search - it was the 3rd one we viewed so it wasn't too difficult to find somewhere decent.

Hi

we didnt want to live in the city so have settled in Stony Plain which is 15-20mins drive west of the city i could highly recommend here or spruce grove which is right next to us

It depends where you're going to be working & how much of a commute you're willing to do. Spruce Grove to downtown would be at least 50 minutes in a morning during peak time & I think Stony Plain is even further. St Albert is a shorter commute although some people say the property taxes there are high (they aren't actually that much higher - avg of $600 more per year). But there are lots of nice areas both in the city and in the surrounding areas. The jury is still out for us regarding where we will eventually settle, whether we will stay in the west end or move elsewhere. There is a LOT of choice!

Yeah, so as I said it depends where you're working and the hours you work. For me, I have to drop kids off at day care then commute into work downtown for 8am so living that far out would be no good and I couldn't leave as early as 6am!
