Moving to Canada and My Big Plan
 

Hi Guys,

I've been skimming the forums and articles on the site which are fantastic. It makes me want to go even more.

Anyway I've come up with a plan for moving to canada and I was interested in running it past you to see what advice or suggestions you could give.
I'm currently the young age of 23 but have a desperate need to move to canada, every holiday I go on, I end up in Canada, every day I think of the place. Its like I'm being physically drawn to the country and have been since i was in my teens.

So I anyway back to my plan...
Over the next 5 years I was planning to study the rest of my degree in computing then either take another degree subject or possibly a masters. Whilst working in the IT industry. This would take me around 5 years to complete and if I still had a yurning to move to canada, then would be the time for me to go(visa pending etc), being 28.

I was just wondering if there are any hicups in my plan or whether anyone can suggest or give me some real life examples.

You get the points for Skilled Worker assessed at the time you put the application in, not the time you get processed. So you won't get credit for your degree that you don't have today. Having said that, the system will have collapsed by the time you get your degree and probably something more sensible will be in its place.

If you have the points to qualify for the skilled worker app (have you taken the self-assessment at the CIC website?) then apply now. By the time you're done with your Master's you should have a decision from them :)

A short term solution would be BUNAC. Have you tried them yet? You can go once as a student and once afterwards as a prole. Some people have garnered jobs this way which drastically speeds the process.

Whatever you decide, there should be plenty of your time scheduled for research in the near future!

In regards to the skilled workers programme, I realise I'd have to wait till my qualifications came through before I could apply with them. Hopefully your right though and something new will be in place by then.

The other thing that I forgot to comment on was the fact that I'll still be under 30 so I can go out on a work/holiday type visa and stay a year working part time, working out where I want to live and trying to get an interview for a job that I'd be able to get a work permit for.... wouldn't I?

If you like Montreal, you'll be pleased to hear that you get lots of points for having been to Quebec, lived in Quebec and worked in Quebec (you even get points for being a tourist there!).

Yeah the Quebec thing makes me chuckle.

I've stayed with some friends there for a while, I'm sure that'll count for something :)

Why not study in canada ? Can get work permit I believe as student (someone please confirm this for me ? )

This gives you Canadian education and life experience. And you get to party with sweet Canadian babes/guys whatever your thing is. :D :cool:

^^What he said. If you're sure you want to come here, get your Masters/PhD here. It's a breeze to convert from grad student within Canada to PR.
