Moving to Calgary from the UK

Hi all,

I have been offered a job in Calgary, moving over with my 2 year old son and wife, we are from London England.
I'll be on $130k, my wife won't work until we are settled and can find a childcare provider.
We want to live on the west side of Calgary, preferably no greater than 20 minutes walk from a train station.
can anyone help and suggest a suitable area for a young family, taking into consideration typical monthly costs for a family, including a bit for saving and going out/family fun.
Thanks
Darren

20 minutes walk from a train station is not something that I would wish to entertain in the winter and I say that as someone that used the c-train to get to and from work for 15 or so years.

This is a link to a website that demonstrates how the c-train lines interact with communities: Calgary MLS Community Map | LRT Map | Calgary C-Train Map (marniecampbell.ca)

Now that the ring road has been completed, you can get to most areas from most areas in Calgary, relatively easily. If you narrow down your "wants" to be a little more specific, people will be able to provide you with their thoughts.

Darren, I moved to Calgary in 2017 in what seems like a very similar situation!
What worked for us was to live centrally for 6 months to figure things out "on the ground".
We spent time exploring different neighbourhoods before making surer plans.
You might know this already but https://www.rentfaster.ca/ab/calgary/ is a good way to find rental properties and will help you understand part of the living costs.

Hi Darren, the North West is a good choice for a family but walking distance to transportation isn’t always an option. The roads are great and it’s easy to get anywhere. Look at the area Nolan Hill which is a great area to live for families with lots of shops and restaurants close by. Do you have a job set up and if so what area?
