Moving to Calgary with a Dog

Hi everyone,

I am moving to Calgary, AB, in May 2026 and will be bringing my dog with me. I have found an agent to use (I think), but everywhere I am reading says that I will also need to use a Calgary-based agent to clear my dog through customs. The UK agent has quoted me for this service with a company that they liaise with; however, I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this and whether they used an agent or cleared their dog themselves.

The thing that may make it a bit more complicated is that I will be arriving two days before she arrives and will technically be "unaccompanied", unsure if that will make a difference...

Any advice or suggestions are gratefully appreciated..

Thanks

Use this to determine the documentation you will need.

If you are emigrating permanently, make sure you list your dog on your "goods to follow" list (if the dog was on the same flight then it would be on the 'goods accompanying' list).

Re: Moving to Calgary with a Dog

When we did this, January of 2007, we used an agent that handled everything from the UK side which, as it turned out, was lucky due to the fact that the flight was delayed due to an issue with the aeroplane and we were stuck in the UK for an extra day after boarding (we flew from London to Glasgow and there was an issue at Glasgow).

Anyway, at the Calgary side, we simply went through the immigration process ourselves, picked up the paperwork at the cargo part of the airport, drove back to immigration, got those documents stamped, drove back to cargo and collected our two Rotties.

I have no idea if things have changed but that is what we went through.

My wife purchases dogs from all over the world and, minus the immigration part, this is what we do all of the time.
