That was years ago and If I recollect, huge amounts of planning and lawyer work went into him getting a Visa. I don't think a self employed web designer is likely to have quite the same luck.

2005.

Yes, a lot of paperwork and planning. Lawyer fees were about $2k.

Of no use achieving permanent residency either, it got us 3 year work permits to be self-employed.
