Does anyone know how much it costs to ship a container of worldy possessions over? :blink:

Hi Sheryl,

Where abouts in Canada are you going and what size is your house?

We would normally give ballpark figures of between £3700 and £4600 for a 20ft container (1050cubic feet, about the size of a single garage) and between £5800 and £7000 for a 40ft Container.

Those costs are door to door but dont include insurance as this is worked out based on the value of your goods.

Try Robinsons International.
They charge about £3500 for a sole use 20ft container with insurance on top.
Take the groupage insurance option too. It's not expensive and it's dead easy.

Am paying £2700 for my possessions, going groupage to BC. I didnt have enough to make a full 20ft container quite worthwhile, and groupage saved me a few hundred.

The packers are coming tomorrow - eeekkkk, must keep sorting....

Hi I hope it went well and you gave a fond farewell to your worldly goods untill you meet them again. I was wondering which company you used to get what sounds like a reasonable deal? When do you move to whistler? I hope it works out for you.:thumbup:

Hi we have been in Calgary now for 4 weeks, and we used Bishops move in the Uk to move our furniture which cost us for a full 20ft container with Insurance £3700. I can recoomend them and can not praise them enough for an excellent service. they packed our things very carefully and effectivley as nothing got damaged, just a small damage to a picture frame. The only issues we did have once we got here, was the Company that most removal firmshave to use over here is Tippet-Richardson. Now they are a differnt ball game all together, Everyone we have spoke to who have used them have not had a good word to say about them. The despatcher is rude, arrogant, and they will only want to deliver your furniture when it SUITS THEM and not when it SUITS you. And if you do not ride with them, they then try to charge you for storage and even overtime!!!!! So please be careful, but good luck anyway.

HI, i used Allied PIckfords. All been fine so far. To be honest, i had 5 companies thru to quote and there wasnt much to choose between them.

1 was too expensive, 1 didn't offer proper insurance (just "standard liability", watch out for that) so that left 3, and i negotiated a bit and got another £170 off their price, and in the end went with Pickfords.

I fly on Tuesday, and it is my leaving party today, so Happy Canada Day to me :thumbsup:
