Moved - Bizarre Question....

Hi all,
Could someone please tell who the big milk, cheese and yogurt companies in Canada are?
I'm after the equivalent of Dairy Crest, St Ivel, Muller etc.
Many thanks
Charlie

Agropur markets something called Natrel which I don't think can be legally milk as it's labelled something like "natural dairy beverage". I suppose it's a chemical substitute for milk. Anyway, it's widely available so I suppose Agropur might be a big player.

Parmalat is another, Lactantia is one of their brands.

Armstrong is a cheese brand - don't know if it's the company though haven't got the label and my milk is dairyland if that helps!

Thats a Saputo brand...they are another major dairy / food player.

Parmalat and Kraft are probably the biggest?

The Canadian Company Capabilities website may help. You can sort companies by sector, by province, by number of employees, and by other criteria.

What happened with their missing billions in the end? I never heard the end of that scandal, just seemed to disappeared off the UK news radar... was surprised to see Parmalat over here.

It also depends where you shop and what part of the country you are in. With milk for example if you are in Ontario you will either buy Neilson which is owned by Loblaws so will be present in all Loblaws owned stores (i.e. loblaws, no frills, fortinos, real canadian superstore etc.) or you will buy Natrel or possibily Parmalat Sealtest. Saputo makes a line of milk called Dairyland which is very big out west but not well known in Ontatio although Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart sell it as well as where I work. If youw ant Organic milk in Ontatio you will probably buy Organic Meadow or Harmony.

The other option in Ontario is to go to Flesherton and buy raw milk from the blue school bus.
