Moved: advise needed...

Hi,

have not been in here for a while as it seems to have taken ages to have our weeks look and see confirmed from my partners company. At last thats no longer the case....

We are due in Toronto for a weeks visit on 8th October...have been given 4 possible locations as to where the job offer may be for.The areas mentioned are Vaughan,Etobicoke,North York or Burlington. Can anyone please give us their advise on these areas and possible places to live.

We like communities that fell safe and are looking for a 3 bedroom house. we have no children but two beautiful dogs which we plan to bring over.At present we commute into the city here so would be happy to again. Our aim is to buy but our budget seems small for what we have seen the prices of homes are in canada..we can go to around 300,000 CAD, any advise welcome...

we have seen one area which is stoney creek, it seems to have newer house and within our price range, would it be to far to travel to....
If so, does anyone have contact for new homes in the area we are needing.....

One last thing for now anyway......when we first arrive we plan to go into rented accomodation for a few months can anyone give us any contacts. Of cause we will need dog friendly homes.....

look forward to hearing from you.....

Hi Alison,

You should re-post this in the Canada lifestyle forum and you may get more answers.

Good luck on the rental for the dogs as we are having no luck in Regina, SK. I don't know what sort of dogs they have in Canada - but the landlords have a very bad outlook towards renting to families with dogs.

Alison.

Not stupid at all....I would cut and paste to the Canada section..or perhaps the mods will move it for you...or someone else may even come along with a better suggestion.;)

Welcome to BE

For rentals why not look on mls dot

Also if you use google dot ca and type in the area and rental quiet a bit comes back, as you are taking pets its better to ask the question, also i think ive seen on here that dogs need to have a license etc

We contacted a realator in the area that we are moving to and she has advised once we are ready she will help with a place before we buy, but we dont have any pets, just three kids

Where do you have to go to for your job, Stoney Creek is a good 90 minute drive from down town, if the QEW is even open?

407 makes transit a tad easier, you catch it at burlington, but then again, depends upon where you work.

Burlington is a nice, friendly, growing , area.

Use mapquest.ca for the locations and driving times. Briefly, Vaughan is in the NW corner, N. York central north, Etobicoke west (around the airport) and Burlington further west again, bordering Hamilton.

Oshawa is east, Bowmanville further east and Stoney Creek is around the corner of L. Ontario on the other side of Hamilton.

Stoney Creek to Burlington is do-able, Oshawa to N. York just maybe, Etobicoke and Vaughan probably too far from Oshawa and Bowmanville probably too far from all four.

Etobicoke, now formally part of Mississuaga.

Burlington might work for Etobicoke, i would not want to do it, could take good hour.

Vaughn is North of Toronto, Newmarket would be a better choice, could also work for North York.

Bowmanville and Oshawa are a good 45 minutes+++ of the Eastern edge of Toronto, forget it.

Best Bet, IMO, Take the job in Vaughn, look at area North, including Newmarket as far North as Barrie, good pricing on homes.

If Vaughn doesn't work out, North York is about 20 minutes South.

Bloody hell. That's the first time Howard and I have ever agreed about anything.

Alison, we were in Ontario three years ago in the second week of October and the weather was gorgeous. It was a good bit cooler at night though than daytime temps, but we were in t-shirts etc.

Down at Niagara Falls was real hot:)

As this is the only time I have been I don't know if this is normal Oct temps - perhaps some of the folks living there will let you know.

The Fall colours were breathtaking.

Well I'll disagree with both of you then, but only on Howard's first statement; the rest is pretty sound ;)

Etobicoke is the westernmost part of Toronto, bounded to the west by Etobicoke Creek, which forms the eastern boundary of Mississauga. I think David Miller would be pretty upset to learn that it's "formally part of Mississauga" as he would have lost a great chunk of his political demesne.

For the rest of what Howard and Novo said, you do really need to find out where the job is first, as that will make a significant difference to where it's practical to live. You said it's in "one of 4 places" - is that your choice or the company's?
