I'm Shona and I've just got a job offer as a nurse in Vernon. I'm hoping to move with my husband, 16 yr old son and 14 yr old daughter in September or October - basically as soon as I obtain my work permit. The kids are a bit apprehensive about starting life again and making new friends in a different country. However they are looking forward to snow in the winter and the chance to go skiing at the weekends!!

I had a lousy Chinese in Vernon a couple of days ago. Oh, and the Ford dealer sucks.

Apart from those particular establishments, I think it's a lovely town in a beautiful area. Best of luck with the move

No, sorry, I don't Shona.

Plenty of info here: http://www.vernon.ca/lifestyles/recreation.html about how to keep the kids occupied, and I'm sure they'll make new friends quickly once they get immersed in some activities.

Hi Shona, I PMd you. We have a 17 year old son and 12 year old daughter. Both were very aprehensive about starting over but they have fitted right in and love it now.Your kids will like it for sure.

Thanks for the message. Couldn't access the PM as hadn't done 3 posts. This is the third so should be able to pick it up now. How are the secondary schools in Vernon. do you need to live in a catchment area or do you have choice?

Hey, Catchments do exist however providing there is room you can actually go to any school.Just need to fill paperwork out...
