Motocross in Canada?

Hi, we are only in early talks of moving to Canada and haven't decided on any particular place to relocate to yet.

It seems a strange thing to think of, with so many other things to consider - but my son (8) races motocross bikes (only club level) and it is a part of our lives that we love and want to continue wherever we go.

We have been looking at Winnipeg and surrounding areas - but are open minded to most areas.

Does anyone know if there are many practise tracks around (we have 5 within 15 miles of our house - so we are spoilt for choice here!) and any info on racing ect... would be helpful.

Also when we're not a mx tracks, we're on our Jetski's or water skiing. Obviously not a winter sport, but would like to find out if watersport's are common, and if so what areas.

Thanks for any information

Chris

You should come to Alberta/ BC. It seems that everyone here owns boats, ATVs and MX bikes. There are designated trails in the Rockies to use said outdoors toys for both winter and summer....obviously not the boats, although there are plenty of huge lakes.......

Cheers

Hi Motocross is very popular here, amateurs use the Floodway and every roadside ditch outside of the city is fair game, there is a big competitive scene here too, though unfortunately for me, no one has heard of Enduro:mad:.
The provincial pastime here is to spend weekends 'at the lake' so your watersports are well catered for.
...And of course the most popular motorsport here is snowmobiling!!

Regards

Darren

Thanks for the replies

It sounds like another plus side to Canada!

Wow it has made me really happy - I had been thinking perhaps we would have to find alternative pastimes, and I couldn't have the best of both worlds.

Have always wanted to try snowmobiling, what a way to make the most of the snow!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the lack of Enduro though - I take it there are plenty of "green lane " type of places, just not actual races?

Hi there & welcome to BE :)

Hubby used to race MotoX but now has a Super Moto & does track days (see pic)

When we were over last year he rode on a friends MotoX track in his back garden - a mile mile long  (pic of him jumping). He also spent the day off roading with friends in the Porcupine Foot Hills & had the most fantastic time (pic of him 'resting' amongst the trees)

In the winter hubby intends to carry on - (see other pic);)

There will be plenty of opportunities for your son to continue MotoX :D

Moto-X in Canada is quite well represented, even in the UK you can follow the Canadian Moto-X championship on one of the satellite channels (Extreme channel or simarlar)

Funny really, it was one of the first questions i asked regarding road race tracks when i first de-camped on to this site last year, being an ex-club road racer and all that.

Yeah, seems a bit odd with all the important things to consider - but bikes have been a big part of my and my families lives.

Would love to get back on the road tracks again (only did track days) - sold my R1 track bike when my son started racing his MX bikes!!
