Darwin the Ikea monkey has an alibi, he is behind bars at the mo. These are most likely bigger primates, but with a similar level of education.

I remember the IRA putting a bomb on J9 of the M6 a few years back, right by the Ikea, prefer being shot myself.

To be fair, these events are quite rare in Vancouver (and Canada in general). The crime rates in Canadian cities are much lower than those in comparative-sized cities in the USA or Mexico... So, please don't let the headlines like this scare you away!

however, are they lower than the UK, since that's where most expats are coming from?
